Felt really sorry for two good teams having to play at the side of the ocean today. Salthill is just not suitable for games. Two good teams. The one big reason for the game being poor was the conditions. All for a city like Galway having cship games but every second game in salthill is ruined by the conditions

It also rains quite a lot in Galway.

Safer to make the Galway County Board build a stadium in Spain maybe.

Or would they be too hot?

You won't find any disagreement for any Gaa going Galway supporter.

Fully aware of that as I've seen here on this forums every year. The one blessing it that I guess a draw means both teams may not be hindered too much by the result and the draw also means it's setup for a cracking Leinster cship

so what? Conditions would have been similar anywhere else. playing close to sea is no reason to move.
your point on moving games from salthill would be more valid if your complaints were about access to the ground which is horrendous

Easy now, they might run with your idea. They are still paying off a multi million Euro debt on a facility that doesn't exist.

I go to the odd game. Would much rather have it in Athenry tbh. Much better atmosphere.

Pearses Stadium is an awful place..difficult to get too with no proper parking and a nightmare to get out of too. They should have bought land on the old Galway Airport site which is now derelict near Carnmore just off the M6 and M17.

It is horrendous I have never witnessed conditions like it in May. The wind quite literally dips for a few seconds and then blows a gale for half an hour. David Burke had some poor misses in the 2nd half too.

Yet one of the top pitches in the country and decent toilet facilities unlike some other county grounds. Yes access massive issue but the weather. Come on. The old stadium opened in 1957 and closed in 1990 but weather never bothered people. Can't do anything until climate change is taken seriously methinks.

You should take a trip up to Pearse stadium sometime

I was genuinely shocked at how strong the wind was. It was incredible.

Price of land so valuable in Salthill that you could still fund a change to Tuam. Tuam is the ideal location for football which is the dominant sport in Connacht and with recent addition of the M17, Tuam is now in very easy reach of all the Galway hurling heartlands . I wouldnt have any complaints if all Connacht finals were played in Tuam if the stadium was brought up to standard ( a part of me would still miss the hayshed stand which is a time warp and brings me right back to my first games attended in the early 70's, that and ford escort vans and the last of the choc ices )

I remember a while back there were talks the GAA want each province to have a landmark stadium Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Croke park, Casement Park and a Connacht GAA headquarters in Galway city. GAA top brass were waiting on news of the Galway outer bypass route and hope to build along the river Corrib working along side the Government's new Land Development Agency in a massive redevelopment plan for the Dyke Road area. The GAA want a fully covered stadium holding between 20 and 30 thousand people and will be used to promote high quality league games in dry conditions. Pearse stadium would must likely be sold off to developers

Tuam can be extended because of a housing estate beside it as well. Im not a fan of Pearse but Tuam is not the answer. Lough George (training facility) is at full capacity now as it facilitates hurling and football. Galway as a top dual county need to think bigger. I think we need to stop funding developments of Pearse, Tuam etc. as grounds for intercounty anyway and go with an integrated 20year+ option:

- As one poster mentioned the airport site at Carnmore (ideal as it is beside motorway and also plenty of scope for expansion

Ideally Galway co board would offload Pearse and Lough George and open up a ~35k stadium/Galway GAA centre somewhere with plenty of land for pitches, parking etc. close to the motorway but also train station in close proximity (Athenry maybe or Carnmore as mentioned above).

The centre should have as its main focus:
- One purpose built intercounty pitch to the same dimensions as Croke Parke
- State of the art dressing rooms, restaurants, Galway GAA shop and Galway GAA Admin office as well as toilet facilities etc
- Galway GAA training pitches including astro GAA pitch with floodlights made available to clubs during winter when not in use by county
- Galway GAA gym, video analysis room, plunge pool , recovery pool etc.
- Galway GAA visitor centre

I'm realistic here I'm not saying all this to be done at once but a site that can have the ability to achieve this over a 10year period with set milestones/year. With both hurling and footballs teams to be fair its the equivalent of most two counties amalgamated anyway! Sponsor its out altogether and call it the Sumermacs Galway Centre of excellence or whatever!
