Leinster Hurling Championship

(Oldest Posts First)

Needs its own thread now, especially since Carlow went to Salthill and gave last years All-Ireland champions a great rattle. This is huge progress for Carlow and it is the benefit of promotion/relegation in Leinster to allow these counties to develop, rather than top counties pulling up the ladder behind them as Brian Carroll has said time and again.

Kilkenny haven't gone away and are still Kilkenny, especially in Nowlan Park.

Huge game for Dublin and Wexford on Sunday, Dublin need to bounce back and Wexford need to get off to a good start.

We will get to know a bit more about Wexford this weekend but my guess at this stage is they will beat Dublin and will eventually qualify for the LF. Either Galway or KK will join them, depending on the result of their clash in Nowlan Park.

Carlow at home to neighbours kilkenny in championship is such an unusual but great sight to see. It will tell us how far they've come. Hopefully within 5.

Leinster too tight to call, with KK, Galway or Waterford all capable of lifting the cup. My money's on KK unfortunately.

Yeah, it is going to be hard for Carlow to push on to the next level if they end up relegated at the end of the Leinster championship. The Joe McDonagh is so competitive that there is no guarantee that they would come straight back up either.

As for Brian Carroll remarks, there is truth in them but at the same time, you'd wonder if he is only saying them because he is from Offaly.

Oh I'd say Kilkenny will definitely get within 5 of us.

Not overly confident about wexford reaching a leinster final. Although it will all depend on whether Galway can cope without Canning. They struggled big time against Carlow and Kilkenny didn't exactly run riot v Dublin. A lot of uncertainty in upcoming games. Good to see Carlow mixing it with the big boys. Can they get a win, probably not to be honest but they are definitely going in the right direction. Wexford are, according to reports are more than ready for action. Of course with Wexford you never know what you'll get. To sum up, I feel that we'll have a Galway Kilkenny leinster final with Wexford finishing in third place.

Wexford have to make a move this year, or else they will have stagnated for 2 years in a row, and I think they will.
I'd expect them to be in the Leinster final against either Galway or Kilkenny and the game being 50/50.

Is there the slightest chance of Carlow taking Kilkenny all the way this weekend?

Think first half will be tight enough. When the game slows down second half, Kilkenny will do what they always do.... Get a goal or two and keep tagging over the points
