The Sunday Game - Awful Coverage

Replying To s goldrick:  "The Sunday Game really is painful to watch these days. at least the football part. They have managed to ruin the coverage of the Mayo v Roscommon game. Brolly needs to go . basically Mayo are not Dublin so he berates them for not being the dubs. Himself and Whelan with their stupid analysis of how Mayo were so bad. I mean they lost the game by a point and were inches away from drawing it so how on earth were they so much poorer than Roscommon. Also the edited hghlights spoil the game, there is no continuity and you dont get a feel for the game at all. I dread to think how they will butcher the other games and I feel i will throw the tv out the window when brolly starts slating fermanagh and antrim and all the teams that are not Dublin"
There was a lot of truth in what they said about our performance last night even it's hard to hear. A one point victory didn't give an accurate picture, Roscommon were always the team that wanted it more and I thought they were much the better team. I don't like Brolly, loves the sound of his own voice, but if we're to ever win Sam we have to be benchmarkdd against Dublin. He might have made some good points but it's the sneering way he says it that annoys me. Ciaran Whelan is a gent.

I'm happy in the knowledge I'm not paying a licence fee and expecting any value for money from this or RTE in general anymore.

Dreadful rubbish. Brolly being controversial for the sake of it & as for Whelan, my word, the inner city speed limit comes to mind .....

Brolly had little relevant to say a decade ago, apparently it hasn't changed. The one upside of living abroad and having to watch GAA on the internet: I can just skip straight past the nonsense and watch the game

I would have to agree

Agreed. They should be celebrating that mayo roscommon classic. Instead it was all about mayo vs Dublin which was bizarre. Brolly is so selfish. He's there to cover the matches not make a name for himself. Really disappointing from RTE.

Connaught is going through a golden era with 3 teams super close and capable of winning it. Yet RTE treat it with such disrespect.

The editing of games really gets under my skin.

Does not reflect the dynamics of the match and some key incidents in games are left out of the highlights to be discussed by the panel.

Brolly and Whelan - who clearly dont get on together spent more time bashing and talking over one another instead of analysing the games properly.

Poor TV which is a shame as it is the only chance to see some teams in action from other provinces giving the withdrawal of live games on tv

Sky is really showing up RTE . Brolly is out of order with his personal abuse of players and management teams the sunday game is a mess when he is on it. How the GAA is allowing RTE(Brolly) to paint football in such a negative light is beyond me they should give the rights to virgin and tg4 when the contract is up

Rubbish viewing again last night but what really irked me was the fact that there was no mention of the Joe McDonagh Cup game at the weekend. Not even a result given.

I have to agree, Sky's coverage of the Roscommon Mayo match was excellent and the analysis provided by the panel was great.

Wasting all available airtime ranting about Mayo instead of focusing on the achievement of the victors.

Would agree with you and add that Cavanagh is all about himself and a very poor at analyst -talks a lot of rubbish.

like the championship structure The Sunday Game has just become stale and outdated

Brolly wont offer any analysis outside of the the narrative he is always plugging in is newspaper articles...

Lets go through his analysis on last nights games....
Mayo v Roscommon - Dublin are great, what would dublin do, Hennelly is a bottler, nothing on Roscommon or how they won the game
Tyrone v Antrim - Dublin are great, what would dublin do. Then he had the cheek to criticize Tyrone for throwing bodies forward and leaving themselves too open at the back, he has been slating them for years for not doing this the massive hypocrite
Donegal v Fermanagh - Dublin are great, what would dublin do. Fermanagh horrible to watch, no shit sherlock
Kildare v Longford - Dublin are great, what would dublin do. Zero analysis or insight on the game of the weekend
Wmeath v Laois - Dublin are great, what would dublin do. Zero analysis

I must say i did laugh out loud when he mentioned Stevie Poachers 'Triple blastoff transition' though

Would much prefer to see proper analysis and discussion like the one you get on the Joe.ie hour with Parkinson and Cian Ward, that is excellent

It was absolutely cringe last night. Where else in sports tv would you get the two lead analysts arguing and sulking like children. I really like Whelan and I think he is RTE's best analyst, he looked like he wanted to throttle Brolly last night :)

Never mind Brollys constant rambling off on tangents about teams that weren't even playing. It's dreadful, utterly dreadful.

True. A big win for Kerry on Saturday, not even mentioned on the programme. It was the same on Sean O'Rourke this morning, not a word.

I know this might be a bit radical, but how about not watching the SG on a sunday night if everyone is so outraged at the lack of, well, everything.

It doesn't matter if you like it or not, if its on in the house, their viewing figures will be high, and the higher they are, the less likely they are to change.

you have to boycott it and affect ratings if you aren't into it and force them to change tact.

To be fair they've only a few minutes to discuss each game and for me they showed we're the game was won and lost between Ros/Mayo, they did loads of analyzing on that game especially Whelo who showed how Mayo pushed up too much on Roscommon left way too much space behind them for Roscommon forward's to run amok and didn't show them enough respect. I think Brolly mentioning Dublin has got you more upset than anything else really.

Love this!

I gave up on Brolly two years ago when, as part of his analysis on Mayo's full back line, he pulled out clips from matches played 2 and 3 years previously. Ridiculous.

It's amazing that RTE continue to give him the platform. Apart from his not allowing others to speak, and some of the deliberately hurtful things he says about people who can't defend themselves, his analysis just isn't very good.

If sky did an alternative Sunday night I'd have no problem watching it instead.
