Connacht Championship 2019

Galway "fans" still waddling on about Mayo....yawn.

Impressive win by da Rossies at the weekend in what looked to be a potential slip up if they weren't up for it. Looking forward to Castlebar now in 2 weeks..I except Mayo to win but any drop in standard and da rossies will pounce...they did after all play division 1 this year. I think it will be a close enough game but Mayo hopefully pulling through by 5/6 points.

Just like the last few years it was a fairly routine win against Leitrim with loads of room for improvement left.

Hopefully Mayo do drop in standard after all we are looong overdue a championship win in MacHale Park and it was once a happy hunting ground for us. Anyway with Horan at the wheel the qualifier route will suit Mayo more than us.

It's important that you witness it before growing old. Banks are offering good loans at the moment and the scenic route with Horan at the wheel could be a very memorable one. ;)

I don't like fish, can't even stand the smell of it. Speaking of something fishy i see the Connacht GAA are charging us extra 5 euro for our semi final on May 25th than Sunday's semi final in Sligo.

Oh here he is...Mayo ain't a traditional hurling county...most towns and parish's don't have hurling clubs...it ain't like for like with Galway and well you know it.

You're a fierce sensitive soul if you've taken umbrage with that pretty innocuous bit of slagging!

What was I comparing? Mayo and Roscommon having better support than Sligo and Galway? It's true although in sligos defense they have a small population and the town is almost all soccer.

And half of Galway county is hurling only. City support will never have the 'parish' feel of rural clubs. Mayo is a one code rural county. Very little competition so while your support base is impressive it is distinctly more advantaged in capturing the hearts and minds than Galway. This is the reality.

For a guy who always claim's Galway folk are obsessed with talking about Mayo....... I'd say you mention Galway in every second comment you put up on this, even when you're in New York it seems!
Need to start handing out best supporters in Ireland awards. At least it wont take ye 68 years to win that..

This couldn't be more true. I'm a member of a city club and we've never had the parish/community feel. It's almost impossible when you span several parishes and a bunch of different schools feeding into your juvenile set-up. It's also not an advantage for playing numbers...quite the opposite! Too many other distractions.

It's very hard to have the siege mentality in a city that you would get in a rural county. People don't understand the divide in Galway. There's almost zero football in the south of the county, and a sparse amount in the east. City and West is a mixed bag with no real powerhouse in either code. The north is football with smatterings of hurling in places like Turloughmore (which isn't even that far north).

Would I be right in saying there isn't a single club that has a senior hurling and football team? Abbeyknockmoy and Monivea Abbey is the closest thing but they're still separate clubs. St. James' would have plenty from Cashel and Mellows involved, and the same with Turlough and Corofin. There are just very few clubs in Galway that do both at a high level, if at all.

Makes you wonder how good Galway could be if the whole county was just fixated on one code...
