Div 1 League Trophy Named After A Sponsor?

(Oldest Posts First)

Are my eyes deceiving me? Did the GAA put the name of the Division 1 trophy up for tender rather then name it after someone of important to the GAA? "The New Ireland Cup" it's been referred to which is an investment company based in Balbriggan.

I didnt know the GAA did this now.

Croke Park named after an early patron (Sponsor) of the association.

A pity they don't sell more naming rights than Kingspan Breffni and use it to improve the standards in so-called weaker counties.

I think no cup or tournament should be named after people

Maybe it has changed but the league trophy was known as the Irish National Insurance Cup and always was as far as I am aware.

Hadn't heard the new name mentioned.

Glennon Brothers' Pearce Park, Anglo Celt Cup, isn't McHale Park officially known as Elvery's McHale Park?

Plenty of grounds and tournaments/cups names after companies and sponsors. No harm either.
