Replying To KillingFields:  "For me the stewards are the GAA volunteers who would let you know where your seats are. Security are the paid people in visivests working for a security firm preventing unauthorized people from getting onto the pitch, access to areas that are closed for the game etc.

Stewards help prevent people from getting on pitch and gaining access to areas closed for a game. Thats part of their duties

These guys aren't volunteers, they are well paid for their days work.....unfortunately I have experience dealing with them at games held in our own ground and majority of them are absolute pr@cks on an ego trip ......the days of the volunteer steward at Croker are long gone and the new breed they have replaced them with are anything but GAA people

Agreed, they'd advise you not to go on the pitch. Not sure that a volunteer steward would physically prevent you going on the pitch. But the paid guys are pitchside on the edge of the stands/terraces. What I think are paid security for firm contracted by Croke Park. I don't think they're too well paid but the contract the firm has could be lucrative. They will prevent you going on the pitch if you have no accreditation. I know nothing about public liability insurance, the increasing cost of it is back in the news. Is public liability insurance part of the reason they banned supporters going on the pitch in Croke Park?

I often wondered why the GAA don't / can't have their own paid security people at the ready, wearing official high viz GAA security bib's, along with that why can't they have their own finance dept. similar to a credit union, then they could structure and introduce their own insurance cover.

IF anything is offensive, it's the name "KillingFields".

The whole thing could have been easily sorted if the Mayo County board had sorted a pass for Tom not a big deal the other players who didn't make the match day panel all had passes

Replying To Ashrules:  "Do not blame the steward for playing his role correctly.
The GAA central council need to clip the wings of the Croke Park stadium executives on a regular basis.

They should not get away with keeping spectators off the pitch. They get massive resources to maintain a single pitch. Should be well able to cope with it, and Central council should stop accepting bullshit.

In Pairc Tailteann they finally let kids play on the pitch at half time. It helps make great family days out and memories, It boosts attendance, it stimulates interest in attending matches at a young age, and is a win win situation for all. If grass in navan can survive it and croke park have a problem , let them import Meath sods."
Well said couldn't agree more,it's a great initiative and a great sight to see kids out on the pitch at half time.

Has letting people onto the pitch at half time been successful? Would love to see this carried out in Clones too, having done steward myself I was told not to let anyone on as they weren't joining the initiative, i'm sure there is many's a person who would love to get onto it and kick a ball about that so i'd be all for it.

Having also been down in Wexford for the championship game in 2017 and taking a walk onto the pitch there was a great buzz about so I don't see why other counties don't try promote it

All depends on the ground and agreement of groundsmen but if they see it as ok then no harm but if you want to constantly maintain a top class surface then it shouldnt happen. less to go on the better in that regard
