Mayo V Galway

Replying To JDF:  "Don't take is so personal, the Kerryman would prefer to play Mayo later on in the year when the serious stuff gets going because they'd know they'd beat them in a nice open game of football. They'd be far more worried about beating Galway, they know they were lucky enough to come away with the points on Sunday."
Kerry would much prefer playing Galway to Mayo any day of the week. Galway are the easiest team in the world to defend against and have no substance in attack. The whole Galway attack is usually parked on their own half back line hand-passing the ball laterally over and back. Galway rarely trouble any goalkeeper because it takes a week to work the ball up the field. They are a predictable team to play against and will get found out by the bigger teams who will use power and pace to counteract the blanket defence. They are without doubt the most negative team in the country and play the worst kind of football. Their match against Monaghan was one of the worst displays and you would only hope that they are not coaching kids in Galway to play like that. Its a pity because Corofin play the game the way it is supposed to be played and are still successful.

We beat Kerry comfortably the last time we played them in Croke Park.

I must have dreamed those 46 Connacht titles and beating Galway in the only national final between us at senior level ;)

Being born post-2001 would explain some of your posts, though.

Couple of connacht titles to hide the cracks of reality .
As I said before they will raise their game against mayo due to the inferior complex that's built over the past 10 years .

In today's modern game Galway are not exactly a big draw anymore.
Semi final no show both on and off the pitch last year says it all.
Bet the GAA are hoping Mayo crush them and rid of their playing style which they stole from the north.

Whats the news on the injury front for Mayo, will the younger O'Connor be back and what injury did Durcan get?

From a Galway point of view I can't imagine Sean Kelly playing although don't think Shane Walsh's injury looked too serious. Brannigan may get some game time after been a sub last weekend.

Replying To tribesman125:  "After a few years of Mayo dominance and galway up to damn all i think it has finally come full circle and imo Galway are gone ahead of Mayo for now. Have a better squad of players at there disposal and haven't lost to mayo in a fair few years. Mayos main men are getting older every year and they aren't adding much to the crop. Still see this being very tight and expecting a rainbow selection of cards dished out. Hoping for galway to win by 2"
Funny rainbows in Galway, Tribesman.... red, yellow, black... as colourful as the style KW has got your team playing I suppose! If the talent is there like so many Galway posters keep saying why won't he let them off the leash to express their individual superiority? Has Galway outgrown Kevin at this point, likeable and all as he is, and really need a new sheriff ?

Replying To TribalThing:  "Either of these teams would dismantle Mayo

Team 1

1. Lavelle
2. Kyne
3.Duane
4. Kerin
5. Molloy
6. Bradshaw
7. Wall
8. Conroy
9. Fiontan
10. Brannigan
11. Walsh
12. Kelly
13. Varley
14. Comer
15. Cunningham

Team 2

1. Power
2. Wynne
3. SAOC
4. Silke
5. O donnell
6. J.daly
7. Heaney
8. Duggan
9. Flynn
10. McDaid
11. Cooke
12. M.daly
13. Burke
14. Darcy
15. McHugh"
Its mad cause, Even if either of those two teams did dismantle Mayo on Saturday or in the summer, I'd still be more likely to put money on Mayo than Galway to end their all Ireland wait cause I just don't think Galway have what it takes, Whereas we know Mayo can get to finals even if they haven't yet won one in a while.

well you said it all there
we were once known for playing attacking football
now the whole country knows us as a negative defensive team
galway fans are getting fed up of it now
ok we are in div 1
ok were missing a lot of players
but when those players are back
we will still be playing like this crap
theres seems to be no sign of us developing our game
its a shame as we have some talented players up front

woeful sh*te talk on here......lads get very upset with reasoned arguments........snowflakes:-)

as for the kerry man that said our attack doesn't trouble teams .....he's half right! We cut through every team we played last year and created loads of goal chances.......even against the Dubs......... but we missed most of them!!!

i don't think Mayo have the players anymore for a shot at the title......lads saying they have a better chance than Galway are reminiscing and viewing their players as if they were still at their peak. that said they are well capable of taking galway out or any of the other teams except dublin.

for all the ugly football galway play we do have the top quality players capable of winning the big one. i think we will have to evolve a bit to do it but we certainly have as much raw material as any team to challenge dublin.

it doesn't take a lot to move our playing style on a bit. i wouldn't be suggesting gung ho.......just a tad more adventurous. Because when all is said and done all the big teams (including Kerry & Dublin) put most of team behind the ball. what they do differently is the transition.

Galway have a traditional way of playing football. While football moves on not one Galway poster on here can admit they enjoy watching Galway now.

Galway have talent and could possibly win an all Ireland with this crop but not with Walsh and this style of play in my opinion

Maybe but can you honestly say ye were very attractive yourselves last Sunday. At least we admit that our style at times is unappealing. Other county posters could take note and take off the rose tinted glasses. Kerry beat Cavan on free accuracy essentially. Yes the Dublin game was very good but an exception IMO. Tyrone performance nothing overly impressive. That is the true reality but Galway bring scapegoated for modern day football ills.

I think we have seen Mayo in more than enough AI finals at this stage to know they don't have what it takes to win one and they ridiculously find different ways to lose finals that was there to be won.

Galway on the other hand, need to reach a final, made progress last summer by reaching a first AI semi final since 2001 so I'd wait a little longer before drawing judgement on them.

this game Saturday, I go with Galway, they can improve the most from the bad football played this past weekend.
Big picture, Kerry, Mayo, Galway, Tyrone are second to Dublin at the minute.....fed up of lazy analysts saying Galway are hard to watch but Kerry are nice....also this thing about the good teams have quarter backs like Ciaran Kilkenny, comparing him to Tom Brady of New England. This is rubbish. This is what we are subjected to every Sunday night by RTE.

You see this is completely wrong, All teans including Dublin drop men behind the ball at times.
Kerry will play defensive football if facing a defensive team otherwise we are playing into the oppositions hands.
Kerry will play attacking football in certain circumstances as peter Keane said his priority was to make us hard to beat and funnily enough id say Kevin Walsh is trying to do the same but there is no real transition into attack its just lateral passing ang going backwards.
Galway have the players thats not in question.

Whereas the likes of yourself only have to go back to 1951 to remember the last time you won Sam. It was good of you to remember that League final. No sign of Mayo the following September though ;)
