Are Limerick In The Top 3?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Limerick, in my opinion, have the best squad in the country. The strength and impact off the bench made a huge difference to the outcome of championship games in 2018 - the semi final against Cork is a good example of the impact of a strong bench where, if Cork had a better panel, they were strong favourites to see out the game. Its a 26 man game these days and, while I don't think Limerick have the #1 starting 15 in the country, that's not the be-all, end-all these days. In response to JT's claim, I'd struggle to name 3 better teams than Limerick at the minute.

Replying To Dec82:  "Cant see Wexford beating any top team outside of a home game. There too easy to play against, they have a 1 man full 4ward line and struggle to score from out the field. And they'll be burnt out come july from there marine corp training."
Marine Corps training? Leave it so now, they're training half as hard as before and playing with panel players and are still competitive.
If Wexford beat dublin without Rory O Connor in first round they'll be in an All Ireland semi final.

I think Galway will win All Ireland easy enough to be honest - they lost by a point last year after playing for about 20 mins and gifting Limerick 3 goals.

Team Predictions as follows:
Galway - AI Champions, most talent, will make amends for last year.
Cork - Beaten finalists - Will score heavily but lack of a full back will catch up eventually.
Clare - Semi Final - beaten by Galway - Will be entertaining and competitive but no Reidy, McGrath & off pace O'Donnell will leave squad bare and any injury will scupper plans greatly.
Wexford - Semi Final - Beaten by cork - Poor Leinster campaign, struggle over Dublin in 1st round and lose to KK and Galway. Will Surprise everybody when short passing sweeper system begins to rack up high scores but will lose to Cork in classic semi final.
Kilkenny - 1/4 Final - Deep panel but will stumble due to lack of top class players in 1/4 final - will die with their boots on and give all. TJ to be a bit player from play. Full back to be a massive issue all year.
Limerick - Will storm Munster early and be favorites for Munster Final where they will be trimmed by fast cork team. Wheels will fall off against Wexford where they will be shocked by 6points plus with wexford getting last 5 scores.

Waterford - Lose to clare in classic that eliminates them from Munster. Lack of forwards to tell.
Tipp - Wooden spoon - Pace of senior players greatly exposed. Callanan to be dropped by third Munster Game
Dublin - Valiant efforts against Wexford and KK - Eoghan O Donnell to get an all star.

Yes they are currently, but Munster is a minefield & would not be shocked if they failed to come through Munster.
However they are AI Champions on merit & currently sit top of the league so they are in my top 3. They have a fine panel, it was the strength in depth of the panel that got them over the line against Cork last year. Jackie however is well entitled to his opinion. Personally I feel it is so hard to retain the title these days & would expect them to fall short.

The nonsense in Tyrrell's comments is made clear when he referenced Galway as playing well in the league last year and this is a pointer to Limerick's imminent failure this year. Galway were poor in the league last year (he seems to have forgotten that we lost to both Wexford and Limerick in the league last year) and for most of the championship we were quite ordinary and just stuttering along. In fact off the top of my head, I cannot think of any game last year where we put in an impressive performance. The hunger just did not seem to be there to the extent that it needed to be. Limerick in contrast so far are showing that they have massive hunger and want to drive on. I do think though that a slower start in the league might have served them better because it is a big ask of any team to be impressive in January/February and to hold that form right through til August. From that point of view, the loss last Sunday might be a blessing in disguise and another next Sunday wouldn't do them any harm either!

they are, and I agree with that, the bookies though will lean towards tradition and predictions are often influenced by the bookies..delighted for Limerick after years of heartache..

Wexford have to win leinster to be in a semi final.
Clare meet waterford in 1st game so cant eliminate them.

I did enjoy your predictions, they made me laugh. Who knows you might be onto something, you should get yourself down to a bookies.

Ah i'm messing but i think my predictions on Wexford and Limerick are the only 'made up' ones. The rest highlight actual problems with each team,
