To be fair Clondalkin everyone around me, including the three Dubs supporters to my left, were expecting a black card for Cooper, and I think had the foul been in another part of the pitch the ref might have produced one. However he seemed to take the view that the penalty was punishment enough. Not strictly the rules, and not the only arbitrary decision we saw all night.

Have to say it looked like a black card to me all day long. I thought so at the match and I thought so on the TV replay. Copper had his arms around his shoulders and man went down. Always difficult to know how much downward force and drag back force is applied but your skating on thin ice with arms around a fella's shoulders. Looked like a black to me.

By the letter of the law it wasn't. Stone wall peno cynical foul but not a black card.

I'd murder in here when the black card rule first came out with posters , Andy Moran was playing for Mayo in Castlebar he was chasing after an opponent and he start pulling his jersey and he only got a yellow and I was going mad on here saying "black card all day long" and arguing with posters who told me the rule was you had to pull them to the ground , The posters were right and I was wrong it's a ridiculous rule and if he did black card Jonny I wouldn't have cared cause he was very cynical but the yellow was the right call.

The Black card was introduced for Cynical Behaviour Fouls. To be shown for the following;

Cynical Behaviour Fouls

1. Deliberately pull down an opponent.
2. Deliberately trip an opponent with the hand(s), arm, leg or foot.
3. Deliberately body collide with an opponent after he has played the ball away or for the purpose of taking him out of a movement of play.
4. Threaten or to use abusive or provocative language or gestures to an opponent or a teammate.
5. Remonstrate in an aggressive manner with a Match Official.

You don't have to pull the man to the ground. Too many refs are just getting it wrong.

I thought Comerford had a good game the last day... found his man every time that I can remember. Our lads didn't really test him too much in any other dept...

Probably not the worst thing that we've got Galway at the weekend. We might be having a hangover if it was any other team, but whoever JH puts out on the pitch the next day will be focussing on maroon and nothing else. We've got to get that spider monkey off our backs even if we couldn't ditch the gorilla!"
A goalkeepers distribution can only be flawless (like Evans was last Saturday evening) if the movement is there and fellas make themselves available

He got a lot of criticism for his performance in Kerry but the movement from our half back line up to our half forward line was static/non existent and as good as Stephen Cluxton is, even he will struggle if there is no one moving for him and ive seen him get incredibly frustrated by a lack of movement on numerous occasions.

The big difference last week was that Evan had options running off their men. Ive seen him in warm ups and matches and I know he has the ability to distribute the ball, you can see shades of Cluxton in him, My worry is that he is still very small and slight, he can be got at, and apart from the penalty I haven't seen him make saves but so long as the defence is okay he hopefully wont need to make that many, But im encouraged by him no doubt, Dublins goalkeeper position is in safe hands for when Cluxton does decide to call it a day, Itll be a sad day when he does decide he has had enough, but id be excited about the future with Comerford too.

I fancy Mayo to get back to winning ways against Galway though. I know they've won a few provincials in the last few years but to be honest with ya, I don't give them much chance of winning an all Ireland any time soon. They'll be gunning for you on Saturday but I think Mayo will respond after that pathetic effort last week and the perfect team to right the wrongs of that, are Galway.

Comerford on Saturday night was every bit as good as Cluxton. His kickouts were clinical. I don't think he missed 1 all night. Dublin player's made his job easier with their movement but he still had to hit his target's, which he did flawlessly. Long, short or medium he was damn near perfect. The Dublin goalkeeper production line has produced again and he's a ciotog to boot.

Where On that list is what Cooper did?

Cooper pulled Doherty back as he went by him, he didn't pull him down. Honestly posters this is not a Dublin bias it's Thursday the game is well over all I'm saying is by the letter of the law the ref got it right.

O Brien for Kerry's black card was surely the wrong call? the game was stopped and he pulled the player down off the field of play , but sure if the game is stopped how can it be a black card ?

The black card was brought in to cover for refs, not all of them, who couldn't implement the yellow and red card rules. If they can't manage two a third is unlikely to make them more decisive. They should try to improve consistency of implementing the rules before bringing in new ones. Not an attack on refs, they must have a vocation to do it despite the abuse they get. Not convinced myself that refs and players get a good hearing before new rules are introduced.
