2 league games done and bernard flynn, colm parkinson et al absolutely wetting themselves over Mayo.

Outside of the dubs theyre the biggest story in the GAA world.

Be interesting to see how they get on this year. Still far too early to be making sweeping statements though

what do yizzer think yerselves ?!?

Aidan O'Shea must have obviously stopped signing autographs and posing for photo's with kids for Bernard Flynn to be giving Mayo a chance.

You'd hope for his own sake that at least his family take what he says seriously...

Paper never refused ink Wayno. We're well used to hype, just don't believe it! Was it yourself tweeting Wooly about league games in Parnell Park? Whether you or another Wayno I fully agree. The night games in Croker are flat without a big crowd.

Hope so, the Championship missed Mayo last year.

To be honest, I'm more looking forward to a big game against Mayo in a couple of weeks, then the game against Kerry in Tralee.

If Mayo are to peak in late summer, they'll need to ease off soon, say next Saturday night in castlebar. .

Think it's a bit of wishful thinking from pundits outside Dublin, hoping someone, anyone, can stop the Dubs from completing the five in a row. A team shows a bit of form and suddenly they are the "great white hope". Marc O Shea was plugging Monaghan at the weekend, this week it's Mayo's turn, not so long ago it was Galway. If Kerry run the Dubs close at the weekend they will be the new flavour of the month (although maybe not with the Kerry lads). Mayo had a good win away at the weekend but it was against a Tyrone team who are just coming out of their winter slumber. Horan has started the necessary overhaul of the team he left in 2014 by introducing plenty of new faces. This process usually takes two or three years to bring the newcomers up to the required standard. Kerry are at the same stage, Donegal are a year ahead, Galway and Tyrone two and Monaghan are even further down the line. Meanwhile the Dubs are sailing serenely ahead leaving everyone else in their wake. Going to be a long year.

Aiden O Shea is the most fouled and abused player in Football at present and he gets little or no protection from Game Officials.

Waynol - with over 13000 posts surely you can spot what's going on when ex Kerry players and pundits start hyping up Mayo the first week in February after 2 games, one that shouldn't have been played due to hurricane like conditions and the 2nd against the poorest team I've seen play in Division 1 in a few years.

Do you have some facts showing that he's the most fouled player in football? He carries the ball into tackles a lot, so he gets fouled as much as anyone would doing that.
Damien Comer gets fouled an awful lot too. It comes with the style of play and taking players on.
Lads who can break a tackle are less likely to get a free. That's the nature of the game, and it's not unique to AOS.

Fair play it's a great point. I'd say you're not the only one who misses a packed Parnell Park. I was at an unreal game of football there in 2005, us and yerselves, end to end football. And the craic between taxpayers and farmers supporters warmed a freezing cold night. You'd need more than 50,000 in Croke Park to have a good atmosphere. The only way that'll happen for a Dublin league game is to drop ticket prices and they won't do that.

Wooly's podcast is mighty. He can be a fierce cantankerous stubborn host but he has the game's best interest at heart without towing the party line.

That's because he lacks spark and skill. He doesn't belong out the field, Period. He belongs at full forward as J Brolly explained 2 Sunday's ago. He is holding Mayo back at #11.
I'm surprised Horan is not pulling him away from half forward line. This notion that we're good enough to beat Dublin is a little premature since we're trying out new players. A good win over Tyrone no doubt but let's not pressure the team just yet but there moving in the right direction.

The league is a crazy place to be judging a county's championship credentials. Monaghan were the second best team in Ireland after toppling the Dubs in Clones until the Rossies derailed them at the weekend. Galway were serious challengers until the Dubs blew them away on Sat and what of poor aul Tyrone, tipped for another crack at Sam but have scored single digits from play after 140 mins of league football. Having said all of that I like the cut of Mayo's jib. Nice blend of experience and youth and trying to play decent football. I'd also pay in anywhere to see Andy Moran play. Class act.

Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up. Mayo were very good on Sunday and completely dominated Tyrone. They played a lot of good attacking football and it would be great to see them pushing around at the top. In saying that Monaghan produced a similar performance against Tyrone last May in Omagh but the roles were reversed by August.

I don't see why people are so flippant about Mayo's chances this year. Let's look at it logically.
Ok, their main players might be in the last chance saloon but you could argue that their experience is invaluable.
They are the only team who have gotten close to this current Dublin team.
They've had a bit more downtime than usual in 2018 to refresh and reflect.
They have a brilliant manager who knows them all inside out already.
Early days yet for sure but there are promising signs that emerging players such as McDonagh, Reape, Tracey etc can add exuberance and energy to the team.

Without wanting to parrot Joe Brolly I do think that they need to maximize output from Aiden O'Shea however. Does he contribute all that much around the middle? I'd be asking him to stop trying to be jack of all trades and to stick to one position where he can cause the most damage. Full forward. It immediately gives the opposition back 6 a major problem to deal with because if he wins ball and gets turned then it's lights out. Mayo have enough physicality out around the middle, particularly if they can get his brother fit. I'm not sure what stage of rehab Tom Parsons is at or if he's likely to see any action this year at all?

Do people even take what Flynn says seriously?
I do think most people hope last year was just a blip and we'll see Mayo back battling for Sam again at the tail end of the championship.

Fair play to Mayo

I think they still have one major push in them before the serious rebuilding work will need to be done

The white heat of August battles is another kettle of fish. Very excited for for Mayo though, they have serious new talent on display. Apart from Dublin there are at least 5 counties chasing Sam. Mayo will have that potentially tricky Connacht Semi against Roscommon and by June Galway will be in good shape. Mayo might make the Super 8's for the first time.
