Replying To Ej:  "I wasn't slating Limerick hurlers or Limerick hurling. In fact you won't ever see or hear me doing so about any county's hurlers or hurling. It's a game played by amateurs that put in huge commitment and self sacrifice. Every county regardless of past or more recent success does their utmost with the resources available.
Most hurling folk including me were delighted that Limerick finally got there last year.
My point was that just because your county won the all Ireland last year does not give you the authority to demean another county's hurlers."
Yes EJ I agree on that . We were down long enough as were other smaller counties. To me it is fine if any of the smaller counties win the big prize, but the big three should be kept down as long as possible

Replying To Marooned:  "Group A is way stronger alright.

Dublin topping 1B ahead of Galway and Waterford and Wexford finishing 2nd in 1A have put an unexpected spin on the groups for the next 2 years."
Westmeaths prize for promotion is to go straigth to Division 1a.Thats hardly fair

not fair at all,but hurling is only for the top 5-6 counties and once the top teams get to blood a few players while giving westmeath a trimming, all is good in the world.
this latest league is just another example of the top counties suiting themselves.
there was nothing wrong with the league up until this year, places were earned (as ourselves and limerick know only too well after slogging it out in 1b).
this league restructuring does nothing for carlow, westmeath, etc.
i honestly dont know who agreed to it or why

Perfect10 westmeath got to where they are thru hard work and having good players. No help from the top teams. They've overtook wexford in terms of quality that's for sure.

woeful kick in the teeth for Westmeath....5 years of hopes getting into 1b now just pushed into 1a...1b id expect to mount a decent challenge but 1a now going to be very very hard...Carlow, Laois, Antrim and Kerry got good experience in 1b over the years did them a world of good getting a win or two but this is just throwing a developing team in the deep end completely and will need a full team every week to compete any injuries or suspensions will put fierce pressure on the panel.

perfect 10 i think my fellow countyman didnt take time to read your post. You are spot on the KKS GALWAYS CORKS AND TIPPS of this world suit themselves and its great credit to Limerick and Wexford who are leading the charge to make our great game more competitive. As someone involved with development squads its galling to see Galway who moaned for a decade about getting into Leinster but try to get them to give Westmeaths under 15s a game!!! now that they are in.

I just read that the league final us going to be played as the curtain raiser to the football final next Sunday, in Croke Park. This seems like a really strange decision.

First off, no matter what you think of the league, shouldn't the final be a standalone affair, rather than a curtain raiser for the football final?
And also, with Limerick and Waterford in the final, wouldn't Thurles or even Nowlan Park have been better choices (for the hurling final that is)? With Limerick and Waterford involved, I think you'd get 25k+ at either of those venues. I'm not sure the same crowds would travel for Croke Park for a league final. As it stands, its likely the game will be played in a Croke Park thats 60% empty, instead of a mostly full Thurles, or a packed Nowlan Park.

This feels like a bad decision. I hope I'm proved wrong though.

Agree regarding getting a proper crowd at the hurling game. Theyd be better off having the hurling in Thurles. Theyll be a crowd from Mayo going to the football but hard to see a big number travelling from Waterford or Limerick. Why not have the hurling in Thurles at 2pm and Mayo vs Kerry at 3.30pm wherever they want to play it?
