Again division 2 is proving to be a mine field, I said it earlier, it will be last day score difference and head to head that decide not only who gets promotion but also who gets relegated. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 10/02/2019 07:29:12 2163884 Link 0 |
I'd agree with you RD, it's a tightly bunched division already. Tight games with nobody being consistent. Your lads are doing well.

Mo chara who would have thought myself and yourself would be sitting on top of the pile going into the break? Hopefully we keep it up and who knows what that last game in Navan might mean?

Haha. Brilliant isn't it. Sure the last day might be just a prep for the final. :)

Yeah the young lads have added something this year, nothing like the enthusiasm of youth going through gaps that a older player might not, and taken on shots that other lads might try to pass, that been said last week a bit of naivety crept in, and panic. Today against Armagh when they were on top and helped by a gale force wind the likes of Reilly and burke coming off the bench added a bit of calm to the team, also young Devine cane on and popped that goal in. All in all I'm happy but not getting carried away. Still lot of games to play. However today's game would have been one we lost in times gone by, so for that I'm heartened.

RD you should be very happy with that result, it was a very good win in my opinion even if Armagh were missing Clarke. I wasn't sure about Meath but I must give them their due on today's win. Building steadily perhaps

It's great to come out on top in the 50/50 games and that's a very useful win today. Meath have started well. Like ourselves I don't think you are ready for division 1 but it's hard to turn the chance down if it comes the way of either of us. Only halfway through the league yet and you could throw a blanket over a few teams. I still expect Donegal to finish on top, even after today's result. It's just a question then of who can get a level of consistency going for the remaining games to join them. Meath definitely have put themselves in with a chance this year. Nice going so far.

Normally 6 points and a head to head on your rivals keeps you up. Promotion will be about 9-10 points and relegation probably 7 bar Cork who are in big trouble. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 10/02/2019 21:01:03 2164272 Link 0 |
building nicely with the young players. While I did think we could win today even narrowly , the manner of the win was most pleasing, playing against that wind and Armagh flying back to within a point, it showed guts and steady nerves to keep plugging away, so while the win was brilliant and to be top of div 2 even if only on score difference, the most important thing was the way they held their nerve and kicked on in the last 10 minutes, particularly after what happened in donegal last week. But no one should take anything for granted, this is one hell of the a tight division and I honestly think all teams with perhaps exception of cork feel they can still get promotion, and all teams with exception of donegal can go down. It'll be a last day thing for everyone

Yeah totally agree. Still 4 games left. Anything could happen. But I agree donegal are almost certain to go up even after today. The rest is all unknowns.

anyway enough of the wise cracks. Some honest insight from a fermanagh perspective. At half time in the Cork match I thought Gallagher had to go. By the end of the Tipp game I think the players finally understood his game plan but we couldnt take any scores that we created. By half time against Kildare I saw that Fermanagh defended as one cohesive unit and broke with real speed and purpose for the first time this season anjd actually kicked some decent scores. Now Kildare also had no clue how to break through the blanket, which made us look even better. There is alot of lazy punditry out there that sees a 8-6 score line and wrongly concludes how it happened. The truth is if we could learn to kick the bloody thing over the bar we'd have given Kildare an absolute hammering. It should have been 1-12 or 1-15 to 6 points or so. We are horribly inefficient in front of goals while we are now also freakishly tight at the back, all of this when we lost our talisman midfielder after 20 mins and our top scorer and free taker from last year not returning to the panel. We are also waiting on several other key men to come back from injury. All this from a panel across the entire county of 270 players between the ages of 20 and 30 who can play adult football. People mistake Leitrim as the smallest pick. Its ourselves, On the plus side we have some scoring forwards coming back, we now have electric pace in a number of new young lads. Will we go to div 1? ahem probably not.. but will we stay up? more than likely and will we give Donegal serious concerns in both league and championship? probably and Im alot more optimistic than a few weeks back
