Leth hope that they are fitter in 2019 than they were in 2018. I would bring back Cumeskey the boxing lad if i were in Nick shoes

Kevin is his first name.

Kevin Comiskey was fitness coach in 2015 and 2016, and we did nothing impressive either year until the CR win. In fact the 2016 league performance was the worst in my memory, only avoiding a relegation playoff on head to head. Where was this super fitness then?

Do ye reckon something amazing happened in April 2016 that suddenly turned us into supposedly the fittest team in Ireland?

As was said above, it's easy to look back at wins and think of an easy quick explanation of "we must have been fit" and then look at losses and say the opposite. We beat Antrim by one point after extra time in a replay but the way lads go on you'd think we battered them out the gate first time.

Also winning 2B isn't an achievement in my eyes. We're better than that level and managed to shoot ourselves in the foot year after year and not get promoted. It took the momentum of reaching Liam McCarthy hurling to finally push over the line we should long ago have crossed.

Definitely disagree. Should have is a great master. Yes maybe people think we should have but fact is we didn't. So yes something happened in April that year. Lads who didn't perform in the league (poor league as you correctly pointed out) were let go and men who wanted to play for Meath were pushed to the fore. Men who bought into the conditioning work that was being pushed and they were the men that started that upward curve. Let's not get arrogant, winning is winning. 1 point, 80 points I'd take any win any day. It just seems we are gone back to picking players that don't work hard enough. I've seen enough club games in Meath to know you can get away with not working & still seem talented but you are massively exposed at intercounty if you are not willing to work. Sooner Tougher is back the better.

Could not make that match yesterday, looks like we took a good hiding from Westmeath. 1-1 from placed balls in the first half . 1-10 from placed balls in total out of 1-13. Only one forward scored from play. Very worrying the lack scoring forwards.
Anybody at the game ?
can you give us your reading of the match?

Heard we were excellent today. Derry landed with a very strong team and we had lads playing Fitz & carrying injuries but still won. Great sign for things to come. Tougher due back soon too will be the perfect boost to the squad as he is a real leader!

Very bad knock for Sean Geraghty. Sean I hope you make a full recovery and that all goes well over the next few days.
Good Luck again.

Darragh kelly a and Damo Healy win forwards on sunday FFS what's going on ????? Two best defenders in the league and he playing them wing forwards. Whos going to score in the forward line ? Darragh Kelly not a natural forward, Healy Not a natural forward, O'Hanrahan untried and untested at this level, Steffan Kelly also untested at this level. Only Douglas Nd Kevin Keena are tested at this level and will score from play.
Can not believe this team selection

Looks like it's going to be route 1 long ball down on top of two big wing forwards and hoping they will lay on good ball inside. What plan B is it is hard to imagine. I think you are a bit hard on Stefan Kelly as he can also score. In fact I had him as my man of the match in the U21 about two years ago and he is only back from injury but must get back sometime. Again it's unusual to see only one rep from the county champions, one from Trim and none from Kildalkey.

Must be another 'big focus on the club' again in Kildalkey this year. Surprised Nick can't get them in as they're is definitely 3 or 4 worth their place on the panel at least.

you have to wonder is nicks main focus kildalkey or meath

team looks good players wise , just positional choice are strange
anything less than a win tomorrow is a disaster
beat mayo and london hopefully and stay in 2a
best of luck to the team

Meath's biggest problem last year was the complete absence of ball winners in the forwards, that is why Nick has 3 big men there now in Healy and the 2 Kelly's.

At least he is trying to address the issue, let's give it a chance, that is what the league is for

Very Disappointing result yesterday in Mayo. I could not get to match but dropping a point to Mayo is a disaster. Woh else in the division are we going to beat ? Not Antrim, Not Westmeath and not kerry away. London is our only chance and if we don't beat them we could be relegated on score difference because Mayo will not get another point this season. Played Darragh Kelly in the forward and then took him off, surely very harsh on gifted hurler who is a defender. Going back to DIV 2 B would be a disaster for meath hurling.

Dont know whats going on with the panel to be honest. Few weird selections and even a few on the bench who i wouldnt think are good enough to be on the squad? Before nick took over there was a great selection of youth in the squad and now we are putting lads on the bench who are almost 30years of age who havent played county for years?

Hard to argue that the team is not going backwards.

very easy to sit at a keyboard and make throw away comments like above. from speaking to players over the winter, they said it was most professional set up they had been involved in.
Meath are missing 7 or 8 players from last year and management have to play with the hand they are dealt, and i would say this is why forward line is as selected.

Can you name the 8 or nine and the reasons they are missing. Toher is injured as is Sean Geraghty. Im not trying to take a pop at any manager but to be drawing with Mayo is not great when we are supposedly one of the favourites this year. I do think Mayo have been underrated in previous years as we found out at home by getting thumped by them in the CR a few years ago.
