14-A-Side

Replying To Sweetspot:  "I don't think an cap at three subs would be practical in an amateur sport. To be honest, what I see happening as a result is managers resorting to the training sessions of the 90's where all teams do is run to combat the lack of subs and the extra space on the pitch having 13 players would create. It would undo a lot of the good tactical developments that I genuinenly feel, having come beyond the early 2010's puke football, have made the game better.
Final note; Carlow wouldn't have beat Kildare at 13-a-side and days like that are what the GAA is all about."
It's not obvious to me that 3 subs would benefit smaller counties. Yes their 16th-21st best players will not be as good as those from stronger counties but also on average they won't have players of the same fitness levels as the top teams either. Playing against the top teams is really tough no matter what way you cut it.

13 a side would be awful for competitiveness. With more room on the pitch the best team will be much more likely to win.

I also think people are being very naive if they think 13 a side would lead to a real free flowing game. There'd be an increase in possession football 100%.

In all these threads people are trying to force the game backwards in time. It's not going back to how it was though. Teams are not stupid, it's all about the percentage plays now. It's not solely that teams play with men behind the ball that's the problem. It's also that teams do not play risky passes and hold possession to work shots from the right position.

The analysis age just means we're not going back to the way the game once was.
