The leagues of 1997 and 1998 drew bumper crowds to hurling games as the format was changed as the games were played in the spring. The league as far as I remember in 1997 when I was small started in March and there was super weather that time and the games were massive affairs with huge attendances. One game I was at in birr between kilkenny and offaly in the old birr stadium there was barely standing room.. Great times. However the 1998 meeting between limerick and clare drew over 18000 in the gaelic grounds and I don't think it's been beaten since as regards group games.. Can anyone know if has been topped before or after. preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 733 - 17/12/2018 13:35:27 2154498 Link 0 |

Tipp and Limerick in the 70s and Limerick and Clare in the mid to late nineties reglarly drew over 20,000 to ordinary League games. There was well over 30,000 at the 72 final between Cork and Limerick.
