Meath v Dublin - In support of Sean Cox An excellent idea and I hope it's a big success, well done to the organizers and wouldn't it be class to see a large crowd in attendance. It'll be taking part just before Christmas (Sunday 16th December) and as such a very poignant time to show the Cox family plenty of support. It's always meaningful going to support Dublin versus Meath but for such a worthy cause I'll be especially looking forward to having a good laugh with hopefully plenty of Meath fans on the day. Which very sadly is in stark contrast to the horrendous situation that Sean so unfairly found himself involved in. I recently, like so many others including some on here I suspect, donated to his GoFundMe and the money that Liverpool football club, Spirit of Shankly, etc have raised along with current and former footballers including Everton defender Seamus Coleman has been sensational. Good cause and nice to see once again how, when it comes to supporting someone in need that rivalries can be slightly put aside. Also, have to say I think here again we glimpse the other side of human nature and the negative part of media sites when you have cowards who down thumb posts even on a good will topic. What losers! In fairness, I don't think there are many people who don't support the plight of Sean Cox and his family. My only gripe with the whole thing is I feel Liverpool should be doing more to help here. Everybody else is playing their part. I do wonder would it have been better if Dublin v Meath was a Mick Lyons, Vinne Murphy, Keith Barr, etc generation game. Hugely looking forward to this game. I'm not a Big soccer fan these days (although I've supported Chelsea since 1976, and went to there games when I lived in London in late 80s early 90s. But this is a very worthy cause. And huge thanks must go to Andy McEntee and Jim Gavin and both respective county boards. Well done, the irony I suppose of this game will be that both sets of fans will stand side by side or sit beside each other, regardless of the rivalry and history of both counties, it will be a enjoyable day , unfortunately Seán did not get the same respect. I am hoping for a sell out in navan. So come on both county supporters it's a damn good cause. I never say "he should have given more" to anybody donating anything to charity, anywhere. If I give 20 quid to charity, sure I could give more. The countdown is well and truly on to the eagerly anticipated Dublin versus Meath senior football charity match in aid of the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust. The All-Ireland champions will take on their next door neighbours in Pairc Tailteann on Sunday, 16th December (1.30pm) and there will be half-time entertainment with Rory O'Connor (aka Rory's Stories) and a Celebrity Challenge. 53-year-old Sean Cox was the victim of a vicious and unprovoked attack outside Anfield before Liverpool's Champions League semi-final clash with AS Roma last April which left him with life-changing injuries. A former chairman of St Peter's, Dunboyne GAA club, he is a lifelong Dublin football and hurling fan. The Support Sean campaign has been established to help give the father-of-three the care and rehabilitation needed for him to have some quality of life into the future. Patrons are asked to buy tickets in advance of the game at gaa.tickets.ie. Great stuff, see you all there. Just so happens I ended up watching The Royal Battle on Youtube last night. It hurt like hell at the time but I really enjoyed watching the clips from the games and the talking from the likes of Flynn, Foley, Carr and Barr. You can almost forget the magic (some might say black magic) between these two great counties, and I really miss that to be honest. Lets hope its a great day out for everyone and that poor Sean benefits they way he would deserve to. We might not be at that level at the moment but we are heading in right direction. But tbh this game is a great achievement by both counties management and cb.
