omahant why do you propose such convulated proposals?
When they would confuse fans and others?

Just to be clear - the fixture schedule here is linked to my prior post which is built on the hurling 'no 3 games on successive weeks' idea - I don't know if this helps with your convolution ?

I think the proposal for 2019, is effectively recognizing that teams are going to be taking a different, less intense, approach to the league after this year, given that the realities of the new championship format are now being fully realized. I think they pretty much have to. It leaves the status of the league in a strange state, especially as the championship now resembles the league structure.

2 equivalent groups of 6 (which is what is being proposed) wouldn't be the worst change in the world, especially if they can scrap the quarter and semi's, and just have the 2 group winners play a final. The league is going to have to finish even earlier going forward

I still think that 2 up/2 down (i.e. the bottom team in each group) would really make the league a much more effective competition in terms of helping teams develop over all. And it would make division 2 pretty intense, bigger rewards etc. But apart, I don't think wholesale re-structuring of the league is worthwhile any more, given its probably diminished status.

The league at this point is completely a preseason friendly competition.

It'd be my opinion that it be scrapped.

The championship should be a 10 team single round robin with 4 teams moving on to semifinals.

St Patrick's day start, August bank holiday weekend end. 21 weeks to play a maximum of 11 matches. Club breaks can still be incorporated into that schedule.

In football you'd be talking 2 tiers.

2 regional groups of 8 in each. Northern championship 1, Southern championship 1, Northern championship 2, Southern championship 2.

Moving on to playoffs. Again it'd be a short but intense season.

There's no Provincial competitions, no marquee finals day but you still get all the same sort of matchups. Well designed playoff and promotion/relegation rules would keep the maximum number of games interesting until the end.

That's the future but it is a long way off, I don't see Provincial championships being removed short term.

Even in the strong new hurling format the Provincial system causes problems arising from what happens if Kerry wins the McDonagh cup. What's been drawn up is stupid and unfair and all alternatives weren't much better. It all arises just to keep 5 in each group.

agree,either 2 up 2 down,or 2nd bottom plays 2nd top in promotion relegation.

Cody is now on the soap box about the former elites concern for the club game. When they were the current elites how many stood up to the county manager to tell him they were going to training to night with their club mates and would not be at county training. Hyprocits.

You know - we could manipulate the process to achieve your 10-team round robin -

As the teams play 4 games 'Intra-Prov' in the Champp - have them initially play 5 'Inter-Prov' in the NHL and carry the 5-match record into the Prov standing - still top 3 of 5 to the AI KO, after Prov Finals.

Who wouldn't be happy ?
