Reports are that James Horan has gone forward as a candidate for the Mayo job. Next year could be Mayo's year. I hope its true. Donegal_D (Donegal) - Posts: 61 - 19/09/2018 15:05:03 2142713 Link 1 |
It wouldn't surprise me one bit even though he stated he wasn't interested. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 19/09/2018 15:45:31 2142738 Link 0 |
What planet are you on? It's the complete opposite. I reckon there are many interested in the job.

Oh well if you reckon so it must be the case. It's called planet reality lad. Who are all these interested parties ? catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 19/09/2018 16:15:06 2142746 Link 0 |
The candidate had to have signed off and given permission for there name to be nominated so clearly he is interested in the job and it was his own club Ballintubber that nominated him. It looks like it is his job for the taking. It will be interesting who forms his back room team as well. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 932 - 19/09/2018 16:24:13 2142749 Link 0 |
My thinking as well. Foolhardy of Horan if he does go back. Mayo are past their sell by date. Lots of new blood needed if they are to win Sam. This time next year he will be under fire from all angles when Mayo fail again to bring home Sam. It won't be his fault though.

Hilarious that the trolls are always the least knowledgable on all topics. Horan had to approve the nomination from Ballintubber so yes he is interested. So he won't be stating he isn't interested. Try and keep up with the facts. By the way, outside of Dublin the only teams likely to even challenge Dublin next year are Mayo and Kerry, so I would say there are a few interested.

He's already stated it so he says one thing and goes and accepts the nomination. Yeah, I'd say there a lot of names in the ring alright. He'll hardly get ousted by the players though I suppose. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 19/09/2018 16:48:26 2142753 Link 0 |
I think Horan will be welcomed back by many of the Mayo fans, he is clearly still respected by the current panel and there are still some decent young players coming through, despite some bad results at underage in recent seasons. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 19/09/2018 16:50:56 2142755 Link 0 |
The crucial thing for whoever gets the Mayo gig is that they can get the best out of the players in that respect Horan ticks the boxes he will be respected which will go along way , I'm sure he'd be able to put together a team that would run Dublin closer than majority of this years pretenders Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 19/09/2018 17:02:30 2142758 Link 4 |
I'd imagine if Horan wants it he gets it? MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13705 - 19/09/2018 17:13:39 2142760 Link 4 |
as if franner signing the oul bit of mayo cloth wasn't enough they're only going to go and rehire the genius that is James horan aswell. We're all doomed and mayo are destined for greatness.... waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 19/09/2018 17:34:00 2142764 Link 5 |
He's a good manager, they'll be dangerous with him providing harmony is present. No surprise to me if he ends up at the helm, again. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8586 - 19/09/2018 17:45:38 2142768 Link 5 |
Very defeatist attitude from many outside our county...maybe we shouldn't Exeter a team at all? People wonder why mayo keep coming back well maybe it's our belief, drive and positive thinking. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11227 - 19/09/2018 17:47:28 2142769 Link 5 |
Hopefully this process goes smoothly and he does get the position. I said all along he was by far the best candidate. Mike Solan is too young and inexperienced at this stage. McGuiness or Jack O'Connor would have been a disaster. One living in south Kerry and the other in Scotland! Not to mention they have no knowledge or interest in Mayo football apart from what they've seen on the t.v. MayoDan (Mayo) - Posts: 414 - 19/09/2018 18:01:18 2142772 Link 2 |
Not fair , many outside respect Horan and believe there's still life in the Mayo old dog yet

i can't think of any manager who had it better the second time round SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 19/09/2018 19:10:21 2142783 Link 0 |
Jack O'Connor did the league and championship double with Kerry when he returned for a second stint in 2009. He then took over the minors in 2014 and won back-to-back all-Irelands with them.

Mayo aren't Kerry though and the core of the Mayo team that got to four All-Ireland football Finals are in their 30s and surely have their best football behind them. That Mayo team peaked in 2013/2014.They won't be peaking again in 2019.

Assuming he is appointed Mayo have a rebuild job on their hands.. Horans appointment may entice a few of the old warriors to stay on for one more year but to me this is a 3 year project. Horan brought through alot of players in his first tenure so he looks like the right appointment. He also knows the Mayo club scene well from managing a bright youthful Westport team. unclegerry (Mayo) - Posts: 1222 - 19/09/2018 20:30:38 2142792 Link 0 |
