GAA Players Off The Field

(Oldest Posts First)

Just to think we are blessed with a lot of county players attitudes off the pitch in a good way.
And they again give up their time taking an example from just Damian Comer with the poor young mascot who is recovering from a stroke. Giving up time to go visit kids hospital and all that stuff.
There has been many more this year I'm sure we may have seen or never heard of.
On the pitch hard as nails but humble lads off it.
And the same goes for the ladies too visting sick kids or donating gear etc. GAA players are just one of a kind.
Don't we just have a great organisation which connects with the community in every way possible.

Not according to the likes of Paul Kimmage, Ewan McKenna and even Des Cahill.

Naturally, I've been bred to hate the dubs. I do my very best, I really do, but what I hate most is how any of the players I've met have been top class gentlemen. I spent a week at a charity camp for sick kids last Summer and we were visited by Brian Fenton, Brian Howard and Jack McCaffrey.. you just can't hate them.

Yes we do . And I don't give a toss about what some journalists might say about us . What happened in Tyrone in terms of brawls is very wrong and we have to deal with it but in the main our organisation and our games are a hugely positive force in Irish society . No organisation contributes more to the wellbeing of this country

Been lucky to meet quite a few and they are unbelievably level headed , met a few when I had a few beers and they were gentlemen, highlight few years ago meeting Paul flynn Waterford total gent , a few nights later Anthony Tohill again gent , with the Dublin lads I've met and seen them up front and personal doing stuff completely under the radar , I've witnessed lads coming down to give our under 16 a few coaching lessons but asking us to keep it quite as own club wouldn't be happy , met the great Paudie another gent , for some reason love meeting greats from rival counties when they've retired

Is that just Wicklow players or all inter county players , amazing we have no issue putting up hundreds of negative posts about players but someone would think cringe about positive posts , but then again Wicklow say no more

as in every walk of life you meet some lads who are unbelievably sound and some who are idiots and some who are arrogant. During the course of going to games, at work, out socially you will bump into many lads who have played at a high level. I have actually found its the ones who have actually been the most successful who are the most level headed and its the ones that you have heard of but never won anything that are the arrogant types.

every county has nice players, every county has arrogant a-holes who think they are gods gift.
but to be honest,i judge every hurler and football by what they do on the field,i couldnt care less what they are like off it.
for what it is worth,i have heard of irish footballers and rugby players visiting crumlin/temple street hospital on a regular basis, and on a bog-standard tuesday afternoon with no cameras or anything there.
and the same for munster rugby.it is just what people do.

We are still nothing but a breeding ground for the RA up here to many Unionists. Mindless thugs who start a row every time a ball is thrown in is another one. If you're an intermediate or reserve team you can always grab 5 minutes of fame on the BBC or UTV sports segment if you start a tear up but forget about it if you do something positive.

It's a sad state of affairs because I know the opening post is a fair reflection of what the majority of GAA people are about. I think the critics from a different background are slightly jealous of the community we have and the rest are just ignorant of it. I see a similar trend with people in the south from different sporting or class backgrounds as well.

"I'm a great judge of character and all GAA players are real sound"

*someone thinks opinion is absolute nonsense

"I'm a great judge of character, and because someone disagrees with me I can draw conclusions on a whole county and its people and its worth as a sporting county based on results but also based on this post, but remember I'm a good judge of character and I must be taken seriously"

Ha, yeah lad your response to mine makes it double cringe
