No Graeme Mulcahy!?

I would have him as HOTY not to mind nominated!
Canning.........really?!?!?!

How can Graeme Mulcahy not be nominated!!

While I am on my soap box, how did Paul O'Shea not get in the minor football team of the year!!!!
How was Johnny Cooper not nominated for FOTY.....

These awards are a farce! A lottery!

It's like something you'd see in Fr. Ted!

Last year they badly wanted Joe to get the award. So they nominated 3 lads, none of which were actually the hands down hurler of the year - Gearoid McInerney

Padraig Mannion deserves it this year.

Most of these awards including the All Stars are a joke anyway, but if Padraig Mannion doesn't get it, then it becomes an even bigger joke. That is not looking at it through maroon tinted glasses, I also agree that Joe Canning should not have got it last year, he was actually a lot better this year.

Sure tis all irrelevant really, once them Limerick players got a celtic cross in their pocket this year, anything else doesn't matter I would say.
I didn't feel there was any outstanding hurler throughout the championship this year.

I agree 100% On Greame Mulcahy he was our best and most dangerous forward this year over the course of the league and Championship a complete disgrace he didn't get nominated.

Stirring to pot again are we?
Mulch wasn't actually that good, a bit of a bandwagon has been created for him.Its a team sport and I personally find it hard to pick out one player as HOTY.

Hurler of the year has been a joke the last two years.

Canning should not have been nominated this year. Mulchahy far more consistent. Between mannion and Mulcahy for me, with eoin Murphy not far behind

I take it you didn't actually watch any hurling this summer then?
Canning was brilliant.

Agree about Mulcahy. He blocked a ball in the 14 man performance in Cork last June and his block went straight to Flanagan & over the bar. His work rate and end product for the team was inspiring from a Limerick point of view. He set the tone in many games.

Joe Canning? Come on. Some hurler. A constant threat. That line ball in the final that he passed to one of the Galway lads, took it back & over the bar - brilliant. Declan Hannon was outstanding in the final for us but Canning was excellent also. They didn't really mark each other.

No problem with Joe Canning being nominated. He is a bag of skills & a leader.

Might as well say who I would have nominated

Graeme Mulcahy, John Conlon and Mannion

And Mulcahy would have been my winner

To the lad who said Mulcahy wasn't that good and its a bandwagon......good man yourself sure!!

These things are very subjective......reality is Mulcahy had a great year but was he any better than Seamus Hardney, the scoring stats would suggest not with Hardney getting 25 points from 6 games averaging 4.16 scores compared to Mulcahy at 25 points for eight games.......

For me if they were going to include Mulcahy then Hardney and indeed Conlon were as worthy.......personally I think Mannion should get it

Limerick can't have too many complaints ......they got 15 nominations which is OTT to be honest given they beat Cork in extra time yet have twice as many nominations and Clare actually beat them in Munster so these things even themselves out......they may feel aggrieved by the HOY nominations but gained a couple of 'extra' all star nominations........

Mannion was better than Mulcahy, and I saw Galway about a dozen times, and saw Mulcahy only a handful of times. And that sums up the futility of any arguments about subjective issues like all stars and hoty & pottys.

For the third year in a row it looks like the selection committee are deciding who hurler of the year is before they announce the nominations.

It also looks like that the chosen one is good at giving journalists their time too.

I know a lot of people thought McInerney should have been HOTY last year, I think it should have been Barron. I do think McInerney should have been nominated and it is crazy that he wasn't.

Cian Lynch had a great season and is a shoe in for an all star but I don't think he was at HOTY levels.

Conlon and Mulcahy were ahead of him. Conlon had a great year for Clare, led the line superbly, something no Clare forward has consistently done since 2013.

I thought Mulcahy was brilliant this year and was the vital experienced head around all the young fellas. It was put to him in an interview after the AI that all his points came off his left side. He has already rectified this by scoring a peach of a point off his right for Killmallock.

I think Canning was HOTY this year and that is with him slightly shading it on Mannion. The two of them and David Burke carried the fight to Limerick all day in the final. Only for Canning Limerick would have won comfortably, the sideline pass and return that he stuck over, the 21 yard free that he goaled and the one he clipped over on the run were sublime scores. He was a towering leader for Galway all season too.

Moral of the story, if you want to win awards cosy up to the journalists cos they sit on the awards committees.

I was going to start a thread saying the same thing but I got roasted for months for being anti Galway last year!

Its amazing that Paddy Power knows the nominees before we do...

There's no doubt in my mind that Hannon is hurler of the year. I agree with Mannion being nominated but my opinion is that Hannon had a bigger impact in the bigger games.
However, its almost certain now that Canning gets it again.
There's no transparency in the process either. What players vote? Do each county get 1 vote or 30 votes? Is it Liam Mccarthy teams or all counties? Regardless....I dont think it matters because the players votes dont really count. The person that wins each year is the player with the biggest media profile and the one that allows the GAA to promote the game the most...there cant be any doubt about that.

It is easy to be objective when you have no horse in the race. However all players mentioned are excellent nominations. Glad not to be involved for a year (all stars also)to allow players get their game back and concentrate on improvement.
When Gleeson won his award one thought fire and brimstone was going to descend on all of us such was the outbursts. Whoever it is embrace him while acknowledging that your choice was among wonderful company.

If you think Canning is almost certain, get down to the local bookie as Mannion is, and has been hot favourite for a couple of months now.
