Unfortunately there is no Aussie Rules series in 2018. I know it has its detractors but if the Aussies brought a full strength team and we had everyone to choose from I think you could sell out Pairc Ui Chaoimh for one game, Clones/McHale Park for another and Croke Park for the final game. It's a pity Casement isn't built and you could switch it for Clones/McHale. I think it may also have the benefit of showing to the wider public the unbelievable skills which footballers now possess which I think has never been higher and might change the tone on Gaelic Football a bit and give heroes for kids to aspire to be.
Just for fun/debate and I know this will cause disagreements I have attempted to pick a trial squad which managers would then have to try and pick 35 players from for a panel.
With the way S&C has gone in Gaa I now believe if the Gaa had a full panel to choose from we could match the Aussies for Pace and strength. Some people will disagree in having all our Australlian based players in the squad but I think it's a great opportunity for them to showcase their skills and as many are from weaker counties it gives a chance for their fans to see them and they are professional athletes after-all. I've picked a starting team at the end which I know will cause uproar but as there is so many inter-changes in the game the starting team means little.
The panel I have chosen is not 100% the best footballers in Ireland but is a mix between our best conditioned players and most skillfull. Certain players are also picked out of position but because it's such a fluid game I don't think it necessarily matters. And before there is war the two keepers I have picked are Brody and Beggan as they are so comfortable on the ball outfield. Nothing against Cluxton or Morgan etc!!
On a side note when I was picking this team I just tried to comprehend the sheer pace of some Gaa players now. Would be some race between Jack McCaffery, Shane Walsh, Gavin White, Dan Flynn, Karl O'Connell and Caolan Mooney,
1. Conor McKenna 2. Zach Tuohy 3. Mark O'Connor 4. Conor Nash 5. Pearce Hanley 6. Cillian McDaid 7. Conor Glass 8. Colin O'Riordain 9. Darragh Joyce 10. Ray Connellan 11. Ciaran Byrne
12. Rory Beggan 13. Graham Brody
14. James McCarthy 15. Jack McCaffery 16. Ciaran Kilkenny 17. Cian O'Sullivan 18. Brian Fenton 19. Paul Mannion 20. Diarmuid Connolly 21. Johnny Cooper 22. Philly McMahon
23. Lee Keegan 24. Aidan O'Se 25. Paddy Durkin 26. Brendan Harrison 27. Chris Barrett
28. Paul Cribben 29. Dan Flynn 30. Paddy Brophy 31. Kevin Feely
32. Mattie Donnelly 33. Tiernan McCann 34. Conor Myler
35. Shane Walsh 36. Damien Comer 37. Johnny Heaney
38. Paul Geaney 39. David Clifford 40. Gavin White
41. Paddy McBrearty 42. Michael Murphy 43. Eoin Ban Gallagher 44. Odhrain MacNicolais 45. Ryan McHugh
46. Chrissy McKaigue 47. Caolan Mooney

Replying To realdub: "No Dubs please for that mongrel sport" Brian Fenton should be on it as he'd make it Oz not a bother.

Brian was my mothers doctor during her stay in Beaumont hospital last year, an absolute gent. He has no fondness for the sleeveless egg-chasing rubbish, thankfully.

Ya I read that Gerry, fair play to mark, I knew he'd make it over there, he's an amazing young footballer , it's a pity for us he's making his life over in oz but good for him.

Replying To MonaghanGlory: "Add Drew Wylie to that list ;)" Unfortunately the tendency is to look at high profile teams and not necessarily the best players for the team. In fairness you named players from many counties but should they be so far from the top ? Tommy Pendergast from Waterford a big man who can field and take marks could do the job for this team a lot better than some in the squad.
