Replying To jimbodub:  "No trouble at all

Yeah good point. I'm sure there's lads looking for a performance to bolster themselves

Hope it's a good game

Hoping to bring the young lad to it"
Stephen Smith looks a player. ;)

Jaysus

The Underdogs will need to be put down after this one..

Fair play to Smith

Just guaranteed himself an O'Byrne cup place.. classy stuff on his part and unselfishly setting up the 2nd goal was noteworthy as was his degree of finishing

I like Gavin in midfield too. U21 MOTM in 2017 final against Galway. He's another that should be in the O'Byrne team and I'd hope he'd have a good campaign

Listen hard luck to the Underdogs. Won and took their penno very well.

Was hoping to bring the young lad but he fell asleep on the sofa lol

If anything it gives a serious insight into the step up , over the years there's been talk of mossie quinn getting a call up on the back of club performance, more recently c Dias for Dublin , while not saying lads can't make the jump , Jesus it's a big jump , some times watching club games it's obvious lads at county level are playing within themselves but Christ how many gears do they actually have ???

True, but I wouldn't be using the Underdogs as a yardstick. They'd be a very middling club team at best, if even that. From looking at them yesterday evening, I'd fancy almost every senior club in Galway to beat them and quite a few to hammer them.

He scored 1-7 against Na Fianna with many of them of Jonny Cooper for Skerries a couple of weeks ago.

Replying To Barrowsider:  "It looks like a weak bunch of underdogs this time around. They conceded 3 17 against UCD who are only starting out with a new team, I think there was some poor eliminations too early on and they ended up keeping lads who didn't dedicate themselves to it after"
I'd say the guys who were eliminated were the lucky ones...

Ah well, at least the Underdogs have uncovered a couple of players that could make the Dublin squad. They are in need of them.

I didn't know this game was on but happened to be up in the club last night so had a look.

I remember the first Underdogs team was decent and competitive. I think they beat Dublin and Kerry.

This team was a pale shadow of that. Quite unfit too. I wouldn't read anything into a scratch Dublin team hammering them.

It wasn't nice to watch imo.

I suppose it was an experience for the the lads playing for the underdogs vs dublin but not a good one.they probably should have been playing a good club side to stand any chance.

That's the standard of 'almost county standard' these days unfortunately.
Youngsters either left the GAA to hold onto their jobs or left the country completely in their droves over the past decade.
This is what we're left with.

Very impressive

No wonder he got the call up

Listen it was a sublime debut game for the chap

Faultless

100% should get O'Byrne cup game time off the back of those recent performances. Good for him.. much tougher challenges ahead so All the best to the young man

That team was nowhere near 'almost county standard'. There are a couple of them who are good players and might get trials, but the majority are way off.

If it did anything it should focus the mind on any young lad in the country who has ambitions, no substitute for hard work , looking after yourself , big commitment not for everyone

The whole essence of the underdogs, and the basis on which the squad is selected, is to give those who've narrowly missed out on county call-ups some airtime.

Those lads were nowhere near County standard.

That squad was only the best players from those that were interested in being on the TV show.

Except that most of these lads haven't narrowly missed out on call-ups. A few of them weren't even playing for their club first team.
Almost all lads who'd be close to getting call-ups would be involved in the latter stages of their county championships.
I can think of at least 10 players who'll be playing in today's county semi finals in Galway who haven't played for Galway yet, and would be much better than what was on show last Friday.
I'm sure the same would apply to other counties. Sure they lost to an intermediate club team in Kerry.

Does anyone know if there is a final episode next week?
Wasn't around Friday to watch the game on tv but would like to see if they did any follow up around the game and its aftermath.
It does seem that the group was mostly journey men rather than the serious outfit of near county standard players the 2004 iteration were.
Given that, surely a Division 3 or 4 county team would have been a far fairer challenge.

I agree, ridiculous to have them playing a fringe team like Dublin's with all those guys trying to put down a marker.

I saw a little of game. Dublin team totally dominant. Playing a county team from Div. 3 or 4 might be a better idea for Underdogs as Hermit suggests.
