Today, UEFA started a new competition called the 'Nations League'. Unlike the World Cup and Euro Qualifiers, the Nations League puts teams of similar quality exclusively in competition against each other - with playoffs even for League D minnows that will allow one of them to advance to the Euro 2020 Finals.
Could this work in the AI SFC ?
Say, have the NFL Divisions leading to 4 separate AI Playoff KO streams.
In each stream/div, each team plays 7 round robin games.
Then, in each div there is a 4-team playoff -
2nd hosting 5th and 3rd hosting 4th.
Winners in the 8 Playoffs join 4 Div Champs and
4 KO Prov Champs (latter played separately) in the AI KO Rd of 16 (Prov Champs earn byes, if qualifying from league stream as well).
Teams play a similar schedule to the current load.
