Replying To The_analyser:  "He was a very poor manager with Roscommon one of the worst we had if not the worst and at a time he was so well looked after by our county board. His last inter county job was with us also and he jumped ship before we were officially relegated from Div 2 leaving us with a caretaker manager for the rest of the year. The only championship game we won under him was against New York. He blamed the customers (supporters) for him leaving early even though his record was no win in his 11 last games with us.

We would never have got Maughan if it wasn't for Tommy Carr recommending the job to him. Now Offaly have the misfortune of getting both at once."
So why do you think he has learned nothing in the intervening years?

Plenty of managers fail in Roscommon for some reason. This is about Offaly and getting them back to some sort of level.

Best of luck to him, he will definitely improve him.

I love his line about mediocrity. It went something like this: "if mediocrity is your thing, don't bother getting involved with the Offaly senior team".

Few failed as much as Maughan did though, who was all talk when he arrived and delivered nothing. His time with Roscommon was mostly known for getting rid of key experienced players and replacing them with inexperienced U21s in core positions in the team. I think Offaly would be better off with a younger more modern manager and not a busted flush manager in Maughan.
