Not sure about my own county,
Nationally I think John Mullane, who shades it past Ken McGrath, Tony Browne, Ollie Canning & Ciaran Carey

In my view Eamon Murray Wicklow / London was the greatest hurler never to win an all Ireland senior hurling championship medal, I'd go as far as saying he's unequalled.

After looking Eamon Murray up on google, this article lists he has six All-Ireland medals. Could you shed some light on him please?

Further research yielded the following results:
He won junior All-Ireland medals with London in 1959, 60 and 63 and they were followed by two intermediate All-Irelands in the succeeding years of 67 and 68.
But for him though the sweetest victory of all was the 1971 junior All-Ireland won with Wicklow.

Shane Brick
Todd Nolan
Boxer Slattery
John Mike Dooley
Michael Hennessy
Christy Walsh
Declan Lovett

All the above were brilliant hurlers from North Kerry who hurled with Kerry and could have easily played at a higher grade.

Replying To pidge:  "from my own county it has to be pat horgan (hoping against hope he has two more years in him and hopefully we can get across the line for him to win one) that point in the drawn 2013 final vs clare was just unbeleivable and worth the win in any game but domhnails point after was also great and that day the draw was the best we could have got because infairness if we managed the all ireland that year it would have been a robbery

as regards overall ive only really watched hurling with an understanding of the game since 2003 due to me being relatively young so i never saw ciaran carey or the likes play but in my opinion you pick anyone of that great waterford team, tony brown, john mullane, ken mcgrath, eoin kelly dan shanahan"
Have to agree with Hoggie. Also, THAT point in the All Ireland was the best point ever scored in hurling. The control, back to goal when he won, defender on top of him, but the technique to score without being hooked.. Add in the fact it was in injury time of an All Ireland final with the sides level.. It was just an incredible score. He won Munster for us this year too. Great player. Hope he wins one.

Paul Flynn, Gary O Kane, Gary Kirby are players I greatly admired but didn't get over the line.

I wouldn't have Horgan in my top players to win an All Ireland . He's a gifted technician and a very good free taker but I have never seen him carry a team out of a hole. He's physically unimposing but uses that to play for frees which I don't like. No not for me. Seamus Harnedy is way above Horgan in my estimation. He's a leader and takes a belt like a man.

While not necessarily the best player to never win an AI medal, it really is someone like Tony Browne who sticks out to me as someone who really deserved one, based on the fact that he played for so long, at the highest level, and came so close. Over 20 years at that inter-county level is amazing in this age, 4 Munster medals, a league medal, 3 All-Stars, but never got the ultimate prize.

Someone I also haven't seen mentioned thus far (maybe I missed it), is Galways Kevin Broderick, who was someone I always enjoyed watching, the type of fast and exciting player thats maybe becoming less common due to the basic size requirements that have become part of the game.

Notable mention also for Limericks Andrew O' Shaughnessy, who was a real talent. Had life not thrown him a very hard curve, maybe he could have hurled into his 30's, and who knows what might have happened.

Glad you mention this. If only we had him in 14 against Kilkenny. However he is going well in general and he was part of the management team, when our club won The LK Junior Championship, a few weeks back.

The thing is, he isn't though. Loads of players dive. Blame the rules not the players. Loads of players these days hold the hurleys of players and drag themselves to the ground. It is a blight on the game but a different argument. Anyway both have a All stars and both deserved.

Plays for frees....ah come on.......Horgan is top class hurler, best wrists in the game bar none.......this nonsense about being only a free taker is simply that as he scored 2-12 from play in the championship last year.....until Cahalne got sent off v Waterford in the All Ireland semi it looked like Hoggie would win that game v Waterford on his own such was his display.......a top notch hurler who for some reason never gets the plaudits from some that his undoubted talent deserves
