There was a great buzz on the plane and a few wearing the green limerick jersey. There is something very very special when your county parades behind the band on final day. I have just received my ticket for sunday also so all good."
Good luck on Sunday...informally shout for Galway in the hurling but I honestly don't mind who wins..would be nice to see limerick end their famine...

Varys slightly year on year but always involves spending a lot of time in the Palace Bar whether going to game or not. Pints from early on on Fleet Street then walk up to Croke Park getting food on the walk up to the ground then walk back to the Palace after the game and spend the night there

Full time, it's another gruelling 5 minute trek to my local where I drink until closing and then the dreaded 5 minute drunken stagger home via the local chipper."
But RD if you leave it that late to get up you'll have missed your favourite premier league team on Sky, plus you know that the referee will hold up the throw in until you are in your seat!

Ha ha, very good, not a soccer man but I do get great pleasure in hearing now and then that Celtic got beaten because it pisses a lot of people off, plus anytime Man U or Liverpool get beat I also enjoy that because the 'following' they receive from this country p*sses ME off.

Ambling round Drumcondra that morning watching the crowds and the colours building. 'Hats, flags, scarves and headbands' from the hawkers. The man flipping burgers outside his cafe near the railway bridge, probably an average burger but on match day it tastes fantastic. The gear on some lads and lassies showing worship for their counties. And then there's the vehicles, imaginatively customised in the county colours. A few tourists with little to do on an early Sunday afternoon would have a great time taking in the sights, the sounds, the smells and the camaraderie between supporters that you can't see at any sporting occasion like we have.

Please Please can we keep soccer out of the conversation on such an IRISH weekend so to speak.

Sadly the gaa are now part of corporate Ireland and like it or not its going to become the norm going forward. I am lucky enough to be travelling up this morning having 2 tickets with me and one of these tickets is for an avid hurling fan from Westmeath whom I have gotten to know over the years.

Fly in on Friday evening, get the short bus journey into Drumcondra, collect my match ticket in a nearby hotel before the match, get in ahead of the minor game. Convince myself we can win prior to throw-in, lose all hope ten minutes into the senior final, raise my blood pressure and weaken my follicles, go home despondent.

By the time I'm tucking into my Irish brekkie in Dublin Airport, the fog has lifted and we have a real chance again next season. Repeat ad infinitum.

What you don't do is equally important.

Don't park in an area that is restricted or you WILL get clamped.
Don't speed in restricted areas (even 30km areas exiting and entering motorways). Honeypots for speed vans on these weekends.
Don't eat or drink in places that are likely to charge you Las Vegas prices as it won't be worth it.

I could suggest going to the zoo if you never have been if you have a family with you.
Going out at night, much of a muchness. Big crowds around Camden street and Harcourt street. City centre probably less so.

Have your sterling changed to euro before you leave as won't be offered an exchange rate on the currency.

I lived in Dublin for almost 10 years. The zoo is worth going to if you have kids with you. If you are single, any where in town is great to go out in. You don't need advice where to go. I would suggest if you are single, spend the weekend in Dublin.

Unfortunately, having been stung a few times by clampers it would likely ruin someones weekend so I am passing on the warning. The clampers will patrol north Dublin like sh1tehawks all afternoon. No harm to remind people so they can stretch their money a bit.

I always found Connolly Station good for parking on matchday, not a million miles away from Croke Park and most culchies don't know about it ;) Allows for a reasonably quick post-match getaway, should that be needed.
