How Long Should Half Time Be In Games

(Oldest Posts First)

In general depending on age groups. should it be different for half time in under 12 compared to under 14/16 or minor and what about junior and senior games?
In my opinion for most games half time is far too long. 5 minutes maximum is needed as a break. any more especially for most underage games is just taking the complete mickey

Ten minutes is sufficient for most matches but for the Intercounty matches I think it should be 15 - and no more please!!!!

I dont think 10 minutes is needed for a lot of games. For underage games especially i would have 5 minutes max.

the problem is the queue for a pint though.they need to speed that up.
the worst problem is the time between double headers.way too long, even though i appreciate the team need time to warm up

Im talking about club games including u12/14/16 etc and in clubs where queueing for a pint isnt an issue.

Couldn't agree more about the time between double headers-it's ridiculous. There are warm up areas in most county grounds nowadays. Two teams off, next two come on, 15 min warm up, start match. Simple

For hurling 5 mins, to get back to watching the action, in the case of football, enough time to drink as many pints as possible to numb the senses of what's to come.

15 minutes and deduct a point per minute late off of any team that wants to come out late.

absolutely.it turns many wexford supporters off staying for the 2nd match.
having said that, there is no 2nd pitch near wexford park.

Is 15 minutes not way too long?
Why does half time need to be that long anyway?

Fair question but I'd say to eliminate excuses of not getting back out on time, bathroom breaks, dress a wound, etc.

Also for the fans in the stands to go use the restrooms, buy a drink, etc.

Is 15 minutes totally unreasonable?

Why do they need a break in hurling - it's not as if they were doing any running in the game, just some 'ping-pong'.

Maybe for the big inter county games but half time in club games even at under 14/16 can be 15 minutes. 15 minutes at those levels(as well as adult grades like junior/senior) is completely unreasonable and unnecessary

Not so long that the referee needs to go get them anyway, that's for sure!
