Cuchulainn was asked before point out Meath on a map. He pointed towards North Louth beside Carlingford and said there you go? When questioned that's not Meath. He replied sorry I thought you said Omeath. I never heard of Meath. Sure is Tayto Park not in Ashbourne Co. Dublin?

Hahaha. Most dubs think so. Lol. They tried to annex it but we have the le resistance (in alo alo voice) to defend it. Granted there is a illegal occupation but so far they haven't been successful lol.

In case you're ever in a pub quiz, Donegal has the longest county coastline in Ireland, Munster has the longest provincial coastline, Donegal also has the highest sea cliffs in Europe at Sliabh Liag.

Royaldunne you get plenty of Dubs up here in the Wee County. There are plenty out in your neck of the woods in Bettystown.

Good to know Tirchonaill cheers. So you have Donegal with the longest coastline bordering Leitrim with the shortest coastline. My neighbours across the Boyne, Meath has the second shortest coastline. Tipperary is the biggest inland county and Carlow is the smallest inland county and Laois is the only county in Ireland that does not border a maritime county.

Good man Ollie, we learned all that stuff at school a long time ago and it's mostly forgotten.

Ah sure Royaldunne you get good and bad everywhere. I still love playing the Dubs in Croke Park. Wee have not beaten the Dubs in Croke Park since the Leinster Football final in the wonderful year of 1957. Wee only beat them once since then in Navan after a replay in 1973.

You have to be careful in what you are taught in school Tirchonaill. We were always taught that the river Boyne rises in Offaly when in fact it rises near Carbury in Kildare. It then forms the border with Offaly and Kildare and then the border with Kildare and Meath before flowing in the royal county before it forms the border with Louth and Meath twice. The Boyne River is mostly in Meath. The only time that it's in Louth is when it flows in to Drogheda.

Replying To MesAmis:  "Both hurling and football are brilliant sports. Football people need to stop running football down so much and hurling people need to calm down on the "greatest sport in the world" hyperbole.

You'd have to laugh though at the people who think that hurling is just a case of "lash it up the park". They always preface it by saying that they don't really care about hurling! So you don't care about the sport but have managed to decipher exactly how it works. It's not just the sliotar flying over these lads heads I think.

As for the hurl/hurley thing. Both are correct. Just depends where you're from. It's always been a hurl for me. Tends to be a hurley in Munster I think."
Sums it all up pretty much!

Is Gaelic football a brilliant sport though? I feel too many games at the highest level today are poor to label it brilliant. Hurling has stronger claims.

Gaelic football today is at best a good sport which on occassion can be brilliant. From around 1990 to 2005 the overall inter county product made it a very good sport.

To coin a phrase, a good sport, not a great sport. I've played both Gaelic football and hurling to senior club level, one to County and enjoyed playing both. So I hope I'm approaching both sports without bias.

I will say the Dublin footballers 2011 are a brilliant team and Mayo deserve great credit for pushing them all the way in recent years.

Kerry and Tyrone in the 2000s were a small notch below but brilliant teams too.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Got to say I'm totally in agreement with you , it's a sport that's of little interest to me, the hype around the two games at weekend did little for me, I tuned in and out of both and found them not that interesting tbh. (Probably going to be shot for that ) but it's just not my thing, whereas last week I was glued to every second of every game. I've held a hurl and what I thought was jasus that would make great kindling. But each to their own. Once you enjoy sport in one way or another then fair play, but the constant you have to like hurling from hurling people gets tiresome, many people couldn't care less about it. Give me a bad football match between two junior b teams any day over any game of hurling."
Well at least we now know the Mcentee brothers are contributors to the Hogan Stand and need to be watched in their illegal burning of wood. The Mcentees and their like will do anything to keep Meaths twenty or so small ball clubs under control in their vain attempts at competing with Dublin.

A bully boy stance from the McEntees.

If Derek McGrath, ex Waterford hurling manager, said all gaelic football's should be burst I'd say the same.

Tolerance for all sports needed.
