I agree that we should stop discussing historic events. If anyone is looking for me I will be on the Limerick vs Cork thread. (; Westfester (Limerick) - Posts: 943 - 16/07/2018 21:49:52 2122925 Link 0 |

Just look at the incident involving the KK corner back at the throw in of the second half yesterday. Tom Condon was put off for exactly the same thing and some KK men on here blaming the referee. You could not make it up.

Are you saying that Aroon had no reason to hit the deck after the 'dalk' of a hurley he got from Paddy Deegan at the start of the second half. Tom Condon, as I said above, was put off for the same thing.

Well my original point was that Limerick players' penchant to hit the deck theatrically in an effort to get men sent off, goes against the view that they lack cuteness or are a particularly "genuine" team, but now that you ask me, given the tendency of Limerick players to do what I just described and based on the video evidence being inconclusive that the hurl actually made any contact, not to mention, enough contact to reduce Gillane to a crumbling heap, https://twitter.com/annielyons88/status/1018511923694964736, I would say that there is a least a suggestion that Gillane made the most of it, yes. Who knows, maybe he was applying the lesson he learned the hard way from Sean O'Donoghue on how to do your utmost to ensure your opponent gets sent off Yes, Deegan's hurl definitely went in Gillane's direction, but it appears to pass in front of Gillane rather than strike his stomach in my opinion. I think a side on camera angle would be needed to confirm either way. Nevertheless, considering Gillane's reaction, Deegan was very lucky not to walk and took a stupid risk I must say I find it hard to believe that you are trying to find some equivalence between that incident and Condons, considering where Condon struck Reidy Heftydickonem (Kilkenny) - Posts: 175 - 17/07/2018 12:18:23 2123086 Link 0 |
The referee was poor in particular his allowing the player lifting the ball to be pushed over from behind, truly bizarre from an Inter-county referee - in this game it was blatantly obvious. Secondly Limerick deserved their brilliant win, their first touch and striking was superb. KK lost the game because of the abysmal amount of wides and their poor first touch. On the day the better hurling team won despite the poor ref. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4896 - 17/07/2018 13:41:41 2123122 Link 0 |
Well there was a striking action evident and the least the ref could have done was gone in and discussed the situation with his umpires. Paddy surely deserved at least a yellow card. Paul Murphy and Ritchie English got ones for less.If Gullane was so obviously acting up as you are contending why was he not yellow carded. Anyway why would any of the Limerick Full Forward Line on the day bother getting involved with the referee since each of them seemed to be more than holding their own in their personal battles. As regards the O'Donoghue case the remarkable thing was that a tackle by Shane on Cian Lynch, a few minutes later almost certainly deserved a second yellow card and the ref took no action. Cork were alert to this and took Shane off at half time.

All fair points, I don't state with certainty that Gillane was "acting", just that it is not clear from the only camera angle available how much contact with the hurl was made and there has been numerous incidents of players making meal of incidents to get players sent off over the last few seasons. The diving creeping into our game is particular bug bear of mine hence I tend to go on about it a bit. Anyway, best of luck in the semi final, it would be great to see Limerick go the whole way Heftydickonem (Kilkenny) - Posts: 175 - 17/07/2018 20:16:33 2123291 Link 0 |
Thanks and the best of luck to KK in the future.
