Dublin Getting 2 Home Games In The Super 8s. Fair Or Unfair?

Replying To mayotyroneman:  "fair play to donegal...it's about time a county stood up to the farce of dublin claiming croke pk is a neutral venue...no doubt the dubs will come up with their usual nonsense of they will play anywhere, but we never hear them objecting to playing their games in croke pk..if it's not an advantage to them, they should follow donegals lead and object to having to play their "home" game in croke pk...i very much doubt it"
The time for anyone to object is BEFORE the dice is thrown, not after, pure opportunistic nonsense.

When has Jim Gavin or the DCB said that CP is a neutral venue? Why are we talking about a neutral venue? It's one home, one away and one CP match all voted in last year by congress. Donegal are not objecting to Dublin having their home game in CP at all. They are objecting to Dublin playing 2 game in CP. And they have a point of course it is unfair. It was unfair last year too but the silence from around the Island was deafening. I suppose Dublin don't speak up as it has nothing to do with them. Contrary to popular belief, the Dublin team don't set the fixtures! Much like the silence from the Mayo camp last week I daresay.

The easy solution is Dublin have to nominate a venue that isn't Croke Park for their home game. If Parnell can't host it then it's up to them to find an alternative venue.

i really do think this is a win-win situation for both sides. either Donegal get the game moved and they think it's fairer or Dublin will get to play their home game in Parnell.

Replying To lilylanger:  "Is it not one home, one away and one in CP? Can't see how they will have any joy with this seeing as all other counties voted it in last year no? This is not the same imo. Still not fair but not the same."
Agreed the time to object was before the draw not after.

The country supported Kildare because there was genuine unfairness as the GAA changed their rules. This has not happened in this situation, the rules were very clear. One home, one away, one at Croke Park. Another team in Dublin's group, likely Roscommon will also play two games in Croke Park. The GAA have sold ten year tickets etc, and these are All Ireland quarter finals after all. Why would people be happy to lose the massive revenue generated from playing games in Croke Park at this stage of the All Ireland? If there is enough pressure on Dublin, I expect they would be happy to move across the city but it's the GAA world who would lose out. Donegal will have what was promised to them; a game in Ballybofey, get on with it.

Croke park is a neutral venue

Therefore the Dublin home game cannot be there

At long last a light has been shone on the corrupt relationship between the upper echelons of the GAA & how Croke Park is being used to favour the county with the most supporters & hence biggest gates. The scheduling of the Donegal Dublin game for 7.00 on Sat evening being the latest example.
There may well be nothing that can be done about it this year but there is no way this nonsense will be tolerated from here on in.
Some Dublin supporters have acknowledged the unfairness of it all & fair play to them but to those that are dismissive of obvious wrongdoing I can tell you this.
This great Dublin team will now not receive the accolades due to them because every time some fool starts rabbiting on about "the greatest team of all time" there will be a small voice in the crowd who will whisper "Fix" & everyone will know exactly what they're talking about.

Unfair. Let neutral ground for the Dubs be Clones or Thurles or wherever. If you fear no one well gets be totally fair and unbiased. Three grounds.. Your home ground, your neutral ground and an away ground. For all other teams the neutral ground can be Croke Park except for Dublin as its their home ground otherwise parnell Park or change their neutral to a park out the country. The national stadium of the GAA should be a neutral ground and not the home ground of one particular team.

So are Donegal looking to get our home game against Roscommon/Armagh moved and don't mind playing us in Croker on the 14th?

C.L.G. Dhún na nGall are to seek a meeting with GAA Officials to seek clarification on how any County may use a Ground as both Neutral and a Home venue .

Dublin aren't "using" Croke Park as a neutral venue, the GAA have designated CP as the neutral venue for this game, big difference as the decision has nothing to do with Dublin.

I'm pretty sure that anyone who ever kicked a size 5 O'Neill's ball in anger, dream was to play in Croke Park, and whoever got that pleasure in life be it through either Club or County considered themselves fortunate to do so. We now have a farsical situation were a County team are objecting to a game being played there. Forever more County teams and their fans have said can't wait to get to Croker whenever a team is going well, and now when the chance arises a County is objecting to playing in it! Wether County's like it or not these fixtures have been known for quite a while, and I'm sorry but I've considered it as Dublin's home ground for as long as I remember, rightly or wrongly. I wold have no fear of playing Dublin in Croke Park, even after the tanking we took last year. Some day soon the tide will turn against Dublin, as a player I would be thinking no better place to do it than Croke Park

Replying To kiloughter:  "Also I note the hurling q/finals are down for Sun 15th. Probably Thurles but if Galway lose the replay to Kilkenny surely to God they cannot have the hurlers on the same day as the Kerry Galway match at such an advanced stage of the championship if different venues. That would be the ultimate insult to Galway dual fans."
This is by far the biggest issue here. How on earth were Galway fixed to play Sunday when their hurlers could well be playing the same day. Galway Kerry were group 1 of the super 8s and should've been fixed for Saturday. How can the GAA justify having that game on Sunday and not the Dublin one given the potential clash with the hurlers?

For the record I hope the game is in Croke Park. I think the experience gained will be massive for our younger players looking forward. We are probably a year or 2 away from our full potential so a game like this will be a great learner. However there is no doubt that playing a 'neutral' game in Croke Park for Dublin is grossly unfair. While I commend the Donegal county board making a stance I wonder where were their concerns when this was voted in (I presume that they did). For too long the GAA have been making changes voted in by clueless delegates blinded by promises of resources to manage mismanaged county board debts. I am not referring to Donegal specifically but more a nationwide thing. A prime example is the changes made to the underage grades in football. No thought given and now a mockery marred by crazy scheduling, a group of players who are U-21 this year but not U-20 ignored not to mention the eligibility issues. No more U-21 championship which gave so much entertainment leaving most supporters dumbfounded as to how the hell this gets voted in at the time. Then the question why not the same changes in hurling when player 'welfare' is such a concern. So hopefully there will be lessons learned and maybe delegates who vote these things actually know what they are voting in rather than the 'sure be grand' approach. Like I said I agree with the stance but hope the game is in Croker but heighten awareness for the future.

Of course it's unfair that Dublin get to play 2 games in Croke Park. They are a very good football team who would beat most teams at most venues. Hoever, it's all about big gates and guaranteed income for Croke Park. The Super 8 provides a safety net for Croke Park in the event of Dublin being beaten. They will now be guaranteed at least 2 full houses. The fact that Dublin now play their first Leinster Championship outside of Croke Park when drawn away is a mere sop anyway. The idea of Dublin going out of the championship before August/September is unthinkable to those who put money before fairness. A lot of money has been pumped into Dublin hurling over the last number of years also. You bet there were utopian designs of having full houses in Croke Park for both codes. Imagine the revenue that would have generated? However the hurlers haven't been able to deliver to date, so full houses for both codes at Croke Park has not and will not happen.

This is the quote used when GAA passed the super 8's at Congress on the 23rd of February last year

The groups in the succeeding years would be determined by Central Council. Each team would play one home match, one away match, and one match at Croke Park.

With that in mind, and in the interest of fairness.

IF Donegal do talk with the GAA which they say they are, And the GAA move Dublins home game to Parnell park, that would mean the home game would be v Roscommon/Armagh

Would Donegal then be happy taking to Croke Park ?

Cause the games between the provincial winners are the games that where set for Croker when the masters fixture list came out.

Their issue is that theyre unhappy they've to travel to Croke park, Well then they shouldnt have won Ulster because it was known for months the provincial winners would all play together in Croker on the one weekend.

So Donegal are essentially fighting a battle for Roscommon/Armagh no ?

It is nothing to do with Donegal as the provincial winners were all due to meet in CP.

Have lost a lot of respect for Donegal for this grandstanding.

Its Roscommon or Armagh who will be impacted. So we bring the winners of this game to 'neller and we will crucify them.

I agree, it's been flagged to death for a year now!

Win, win for Dublin, we either get a road trip or we play in the Neller for our home game!!!

This will be great for us, a bit of controversy always galvanizes this team. It's like poking a bear!!

Whip it up!!"
Yeah agree. Suits the Dubs either way. I'd love if the Donegal game was moved to Donnycarney. The atmosphere would be unreal. No away team ever relished the cauldron of the Neller. I'm backing Donegal on their stance here.

Another mess. Dublin have used Croke Park as a home venue all year. It should be no surprise that they would continue for the Super 8's.

The problem is that this means 2 away games for Donegal. This is not fair and they have every right to object.

Maybe this game should have been played in Clones. I think both teams would have been happy with that.
