Yes thats the problem the 'rules' of the competition favour Dublin and completely brazen by the GAA to schedule round 1 games in croker. Round one games which put provincial champions against each other should be the toughest game but to schedule all games for croker makes a mockery of the competition due to the home and away structure of the rest competition. To say the only advantage of playing at your home venue is less traveling is laughable. KY4SAM2015 (Kerry) - Posts: 898 - 08/07/2018 21:21:25 2119797 Link 2 |
Because it's Dublin's home ground, same as if Wicklow would have the home dressing room in Aughrim if they were ever allowed play there, it's not neutral venue it's Dublin home ground, it's in Dublin1. Other counties just play some games in the latter stages of the championship. That's the reality of the situation.

Theres been more dub bashing than positive talk about that great team since 2011. Im happy where we are now, and I think we'll be challenging the Dubs in the next few years. lilypad (Kildare) - Posts: 1363 - 08/07/2018 22:45:35 2119816 Link 1 |

No it has been sorted for almost a week and is no longer a burning issue, Interesting debate thrown up by the Super8s and none of it Dublin's fault, In fairness Donegal players or management haven't got involved with none of this "Neutral or nowhere" ultimatums. Heard D Bonner say that none of his new players have played a championship match in Croker before so this fixture will bring them on Their CB simply seeked clarification on how a ground could be considered as both a neutral and a home ground for a county. Heard their chairman saying they were moving on and looking forward to travelling in big numbers to Dublin .. fair enough. I think that losing their in form top scorer is a much bigger set back for Donegal than having to play Dublin in their back yard. As I see it Dublin will be favourites to win all their matches so the games between Donegal/Tyrone/Roscommon will decide second position and progress to the semi final. I did think the fixture committee would offer a trade off of an earlier throw in instead of expecting fans to face a four hour journey at 9.30pm .. they seem to be out of touch with difficulties facing loyal fans. Hardly. They flagged something that will likely be changed from next year onwards. The only embaressment in this entire conversation is the continued assertion that Croke Park isn't a home game for Dublin. Seriously, the more people try to explain it the more hollow it sounds.

Always happy derg, posting on HS doesn't affect that one way or the other.

Not nearly as embarassing as claiming that Parnell Park, a place most Dubs couldn't find on a map, is your home ground.

Or as embarrassing as Charlie Redmond claiming the poor auld Dubs are the only team with no home game in the supert 8s. Good auld Charlie.

Typically GAA only confirming fixtures for this weekend. Why can't they confirm the times and dates of all the games so people can plan accordingly. We really show our amature status at times complete joke from the GAA. westkerry (Kerry) - Posts: 1250 - 09/07/2018 15:27:26 2120063 Link 2 |
Totally agree with you, why weren't the dates/times given for all the games. How hard can it be? Some fans work at weekends so could do with a bit of notice, even if they told us whether the games were on a Saturday or Sunday would help. Making it up as they go along or maybe waiting to see the results to pick the more exciting games for TV for rounds 2 and 3.

They probably had to wait until they had a long hard think about whether to move the Dublin/Donegal game...............oh look, flying pigs!!

I would still be hopeful that the big Donegal contingent working and living in Dublin will give us a significant enough support on Saturday, but there's no doubt the time for throw-in and being away a week later will greatly reduce the numbers from Donegal.
