Thinking of going to Cavan v Down on Saturday evening to whet the appetite for the big one on Sunday. I went along to the league clash in Breffni Park in March and it was level going to injury time before Cavan scored three or four unanswered points to win. A similarly close game can be expected. Cavan by 3-4 points again I reckon. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 20/06/2018 15:25:33 2113375 Link 0 |
Yeah looking forward to game. Cavan were a lot more clinical and economical REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1617 - 20/06/2018 15:52:24 2113383 Link 0 |
Were league games starred in Cavan last week?? I presumed that the Down REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1617 - 20/06/2018 16:01:39 2113389 Link 0 |
Yes Down were guilty of lots of missed goal chances that night. Connaire Harrison was a handful for the Cavan full back line and O'Hare missed a few sitters. The bookies have Down at 3/1 and that's a great price. Eamonn Burns got sent to the stands during the league game for an altercation with a Cavan selector and the players got to know each other in the tunnel so there will be no lack of bite.

Yes there was also an occasion when the referee failed to play advantage when Shay Millar was fouled but got the pass away and Donal O'Hare was through on goal again. Harrison got sent off in a club league game last week but I don't think it was a straight red so he is free to play?? REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1617 - 20/06/2018 16:12:30 2113393 Link 0 |
That may have been the play where Shay Millar suffered a serious injury. Yes he would be free to play so. Cavan haven't played any club league games recently, not for a while now.

Yeah think your are right. Down's kickout strategy totally backfired against Donegal. This will need to be improved or Cavan will be gifted easy possession. Their forwards were clinical in the league game so Down need to win primary possession and take their chances when they get them this time. I don't think any of our county lads lined out in club games since the first round of the qualifiers a couple of weeks ago. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I can hardly believe what I've just witnessed in Brewster Park. A very mean spirited game, no team interested in playing Gaelic Football, all they played was a hybrid of rugby and basketball. Truly abysmal stuff, a new low in GAA. I know we've been having trouble with the game for years, but this was on another level in terms of the anti-football approach of both teams. Down left this game behind them. They were the better team over the 70 minutes. Two of their best players in Kevin McKernan and Connaire Harrison both black carded then a red card for Ryan Johnston when they were leading by four points. They had missed a lot as well. Cavan can count themselves lucky. gaelicgab (USA) - Posts: 878 - 25/06/2018 15:11:13 2114725 Link 0 |
What the hell was McKernan thinking for his black card? His team were cruising at the time. cavandub (Cavan) - Posts: 67 - 25/06/2018 15:15:57 2114731 Link 0 |
He must have had more black cards issued to him than any other inter-county player in Ireland. I would be utterly amazed if someone had received more. Down definitely the better team. I hope Cavan can up their game for Tyrone or they are in serious bother. early_ball_in (Down) - Posts: 10 - 29/06/2018 11:47:17 2116645 Link 0 |
