True, but they are separate parishes.

From newry it could take you 2 hours by car if you didn't take the ferry. If you took the ferry and where late, there was a queue or missed it, this would add to the journey time.
When you talk to Portaferry people they talk about ferry times, there whole way of thinking and approach is adjusted to the times of the ferry. Ballycran and Ballgalget don't really take the ferry and will head to Newtownards and then down the coast road.
The Ards peninsula has to be the most remote hurling outposts. Added that they are located near some very loyalist communities then we can truly appreciate what an outpost they have.
Although they did babble with football for a few yrs in Ballycran with Greg Blaney winning an all Ireland with the club, I would safely say the only football like object in the Ards now is a buoy in Strangford Lough."
we take the boat regularly big lad.........

We might have fooled around with a football as young lads but when it came to fielding a team for the Parish it was hurling only. I'd say anything in Galway south of Loughrea was hurling only. As for Clare most of their parishes are Hurling only unless you head down Kilrush way."
Most west and north Clare parishes are football only. They don't have the population numbers that South East Clare have from Ennis to Shannon and to the Limerick city border. Most of these clubs in
South east do have football of some sort.. junior b or c.
There are many parishes (about 8) in Limerick city with no Gaa club at all in their parish St Munchins ,St Johns, Holy Rosary ect. Now some have a club nearby but not in their parish. Im sure its the same in Cork and Dublin cities

Not in Cork. There are GAA clubs all over the urban area... Of various strengths.. Don't know exactly where Catholic parish boundaries lie but I would be surprised if there was an area without a club...
