Best All-Ireland Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I heard Colm O'Rourke, or was it Brolly, or maybe it was both, referencing last years AI final as the probably the best ever today on TV. So what are your favourite showdowns lads & ladies?

2011 but there is a strong chance I might be biased! ;)

A couple of semi finals have been the best games of football of all time for my money, Dublin Vs Kerry in 77 and the same fixture in 2013, personally the latter was the greatest game of football I've seen.

I think your county winning it, is the greatest really and if you've won a few you will have a special affection for one.

Tbh its hard argue with that choice ,all the finals with the dubs v mayo in the last few years have been brilliant but last years was just spectacular, it had everything was edge of your seat stuff the entire game both teams played brilliant attacking football and both teams on the day gave absolutely everything they had and more

My favorite allireland wins were against Cork especially the 07 one for the 2 in a row but the 09 one was brilliant also considering we were 5 points down at one stage.

It's hard to explain to people but to win an allireland against your greatest rival is something special.

Tyrone boys know what I'm talking about when they met Armagh in 03.

It was Brolly, during his weekly " I was talking to" bit.

From a Dublin point of view 2017 was probably the best games in terms of overall quality added to a dramatic finish.

As a neutral 2005 was an excellent game of football.

In hurling there are so many to mention. Both games in 2013 were epic, but for overall quality the 2 games in 2014 are very hard to beat. 2009 was also a brilliant game.

Tyrone beating Armagh in a titanic All-Ireland semi-final followed by a great football final against Kerry in 2005 was the most memorable. As a neutral in Croke Park Galway v Kildare in 1998 was a very enjoyable final.

That's 2009.

2010 was Lar's hattrick and stopping the 5 in a row.

09 was the best. Hurling has never reached a higher level than that pulsating match.

Other than 1996.....what a final that was :)

1997 was also a great final, John Leahy must have nightmares to this day.

The football ones involving Armagh and Tyrone stick out for me in football, but maybe that was the romance of first time winners thing.

I think 2014 games are up there with 09 but we'd be quibbling over perfection to be honest.

Looks like us hurling folk are in agreement on 2009 as being the best. The intensity and skill was off the charts, I haven't watched a game like it since.

2014 wasn't too far behind from a skill and entertainment point of view but the scores were nearly too easily got from a backs point of view.

2016 or 2010 were my favourites.

Trying to think of the football all Irelands. I'd imagine 2008 Kerry vs Tyrone would be up there.

2001 was special just for padraig Joyce's performance alone

Best All Ireland final was unfortunately 1991, and fortunately 96 replay.

In hurling, I'd agree that Tipp v KK in 2009 was the best.A brilliant young Tipp team came so close to stopping Kilkenny's 4 in a row.Tipp were arguably the better team on the day but they didn't score any goal, missed a number of goal chances, had Benny Dunne sent off and KK got a controversial late penalty.KK won it late as they often do and Tipp had to wait 12 months for redemption and revenge.

Yeah 2005 for me. I was thinking 1998 as well. Epic final and great viewing.

For me it has to be 1942 or 1943, although I was too young to see either.
Last year's Dublin/ Mayo final surpassed any final, football or hurling that I can remember.

Best final for me was 1992, followed closely by 2012.

2008 Final watched it again a few weeks back - Cavanagh was superb in the last 20mins of that match.

Have to say enjoyed all the Kerry V Tyrone games in the 00's.
