Great idea .. Then we can also do transfers for a certain amount of time, let's say, November and December and call it something like..... A transfer window We can take down the big tacky poles and just play with goals. Make the pitch smaller and half duration longer by maybe, 10 mins per half And segregate the fans and when a team losing comes from behind and wins the winning fans can sing with with glee .. 1-nil and you ....messed.... It up Where do I sign, you've sold it to me :) waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 11/05/2018 17:14:57 2099380 Link 0 |
I think its a good idea, too many mismatches in the current system PyatPree (Cork) - Posts: 376 - 11/05/2018 19:41:44 2099729 Link 0 |
The League guys is where it's at. Teams there are in divisions based on their past performances. There is promotion and relegation and it works quite well. The Championship on the other hand is supposed to be a knockout competition where inevitably mis-matches will occur. For some reason the "knockout" competition has become the blue Riband event or the holy grail or whatever you like. Now people want to make this "knockout" competition fairer so poor teams can win it. It is never going to happen and shouldn't happen under the current format. However if it was a true open-draw Knockout competition with no seeding then you would see some excitement s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 11/05/2018 22:21:32 2099749 Link 1 |
There is less of a gap between 10 and 20 then there is 20 and 30 or 1 and 10. Would do nothing to stop mismatches and would only make the strong stronger and the weak weaker.

So it would be division 1 & 2 lumped together in Premiership and 3 & 4 the championship realistically. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 12/05/2018 08:44:01 2099781 Link 0 |
I think he means getting rid of the NFL. Running a top tier single round robin and bottom tier single round robin. I've thought of this also as a potential solution. It makes fixture scheduling much easier for the club game. I'd finish with a playoff system myself. Top 6 to playoffs. I'd have 3 up 3 down. I'd have 6 teams play off in the second tier. Finalists plus best ranked losing semi finalist from the league go up. It would be an easily followed competition. You would still have a lot of mismatchs. You would be providing All Intercounty players with a strong program of games. Hurling you'd have 3 tiers of 12/11 depending on number of teams participating. 2 up 2 down. 4 teams go to the playoffs in each of those divisions. You'd play the regular seasons off over a 24 week period with each county getting 3 blocks of games off to play club games in both codes. The main drawback to it is that there will be a lot of dead rubber fixtures at the back end of the season. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4172 - 12/05/2018 10:42:16 2099791 Link 0 |
For solidarity, I'd have 2 equal strength Conferences of 16 - say, initially half of each NFL Div assigned to Conference A, with the other 4 halves to Conf B. omahant (USA) - Posts: 2533 - 14/05/2018 05:31:51 2100320 Link 0 |
