The most anticipated 1st round game in Ireland outside of Mayo Galway. Tyrone by 4 fatkeeper (Dublin) - Posts: 316 - 15/04/2018 05:54:35 2093055 Link 0 |
Seriously hard to call this one. Tyrone with home advantage possibly have the edge but I'm not sure, toss of a coin. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8571 - 15/04/2018 13:08:55 2093083 Link 1 |
I'd have a slight fancy for Monaghan in this one. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 15/04/2018 14:05:50 2093089 Link 0 |
Tyrone got stronger as the league went on; are they good enough to win the All Ireland?! I would say no; they lack the forwards to win the biggest games in Croke Park. Monaghan and Donegal may make Ulster harder for them to win than last year! However I still think Tyrone are the third best team in the country and will prove it again this year. Monaghan will be hard to beat, but they will lack the pace to cope with the Tyrone half back line in attacking positions. McManus will be doubled marked; and players will be put into the space around him. Tyrone to hit at least 1-18 and win by 3 or 4 points. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 15/04/2018 15:31:18 2093102 Link 0 |
Hard to believe that Tyrone have not played Monaghan at home since 1982. Two victories at Dungannon in 76 & 82 were close and there is nothing to think this will not be any different. l do expect Tyrone to improve on last year and win 3 in a row in Ulster. Still think we are fourth in All-Ireland ratings. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1780 - 15/04/2018 17:58:03 2093120 Link 0 |
Really looking to this one, going for a hard fought Monaghan win. oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 15/04/2018 20:12:10 2093143 Link 0 |
Think you're wrong there. You beat us in Omagh in 2011 in the first round of Ulster championship - on a horrible wet day in June..

Monaghan played tyrone in 2011 championship in omagh i do think tyrone will win as a previous poster said tyrone half back line is going to be very hard to hold but then again they dont have the forwards they once had prideof85 (Monaghan) - Posts: 851 - 15/04/2018 22:07:46 2093163 Link 0 |
It should be a close game, but the pick of both teams together wouldn't win an All Ireland. essmac (Tyrone) - Posts: 1141 - 15/04/2018 22:08:45 2093164 Link 0 |
This game stinks of a draw. I think that if Monaghan want to get past tyrone, they will have to win at home. If it goes to Omagh, then they will not do it. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 15/04/2018 22:25:50 2093167 Link 0 |
Tyrone for me. Actually think they could make the All Ireland final. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 15/04/2018 22:29:55 2093168 Link 0 |

Not sure you have watched much of either team with the above statements. Tyrone did get stronger in the league but Monaghan finished it better. Tyrone are not the 3rd best in the country either....Championship form says they are a bit further back in 4th. They proved they were a distant 4th last year. McManus has been double marked in every game for years....hasn't done that much to stop him. Monaghan should be hard to beat in fairness and Tyrone do offer pace in half forwards, midfield and some at half back but nothing that Monaghan shouldnt be able to deal with. I don't see the scoring getting nearly as high 1-18 for Tyrone or Monaghan. I think the margin, either way, will be a point.

Does it not go to extra time if its a draw to get rid of replays

I remember that game. It was the last kick of the 1979 side. We'd beaten Tyrone in 1981 in a bad tempered game in Blayney. 2-9 v 0-7 I think. Eamon McEnaney scored 1-7. But in 1982 we couldn't match Tyrone at all who were putting together the bones of the 1984 team. But as previous poster says, we played in Omagh in 2011, Dick got sent off in first half and we lost by 2. Boy was it wet! I tried to live tweet the game from the terrace. Phone was destroyed in 5 minutes. That was the day I thought we would never win an Ulster. Great to be wrong!
