Replying To KingdomBoy1:  "In Darragh o'sé article in the independent today he reckons this game will only be a bit of shadow boxing and doesn't think the result will have any bearing on either team making it to the super 8s.

He reckons neither team will go at 100% as both teams will try to time their run to coincide with the super 8s and possible semifinal and final."
I'd have to say I think that's nonsense, both will be giving 100%, neither team will want the long road through the back door, especially Mayo with so many miles on the clock, if Galway win it I think it's going to be very tough for Mayo to lift the spirits again for a run through the qualifiers.
I think Mayo will shade it though, home advantage has to count for something, they won't want to be beaten 3 years in a row by Galway. Mayo by 2.

First of all it's Mayo/Galway then we all know the dangers of the qualifiers and the loser if it makes the super 8's is in a group with two provincial champions. It's a massive game with both team giving it everything they've got."
I agree with you clon plus there is pride at stake, I reckon they could go hell for leather in this one.

I'll take Galway by 2 points.

I genuinely can't call this. Really looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to seeing if Galway can carry their league form into the championship. I hope so. Also will be keeping an eye on how Mayo perform given their terrible league performances. We all know mayo come alive in championship however.

Ridiculous to suggest either team wont be going 100%, this is really starting to baffle me?
these lads are practically living semi/pro lives and to suggest Kevin Walsh or Stephen Rochford is not going flat out for this is basically an insult. For Gods sake they were going flat out at each other in Jan in the FBD league.

We need to change this Sh**e Talk as it is nothing short of an early excuse maker.

The Perks of winning on Sunday:

Great psychological start to championship 2018
A victory over ones biggest rival
A Connacht final (silverware)
Easy Access Pass to a Super8 group most likely without Dublin and Kerry.

Cons of Winning on sunday

"Peaking" too early.

At the top end of inter county football if you cannot keep a consistent base level of performance from May to August then what is the point of training 364 days a year?

We could settle for an auld NFL sthyle trade if ya ant there, get Neil Collins on a plane back for ye and we can take Lee Keegan off yere hands. We will get Keeegan fit and ready for the super 8s and Im sure Collins will be ready for the hardened battle of the qualifiers, wherever ye may be going to.

This will be a proper championship clash with the winners having a big advantage in planning against future opponents, when the games are played etc. It will be a slight step in the dark for the losers and a bigger workload to get to the Super 8. I think Galway having tightened up their defence will overcome Mayo by two points.

I agree.I think will be putting a few euro on a draw and maybe Andy Moran to score first goal.

I do like him and fan of his articles but I do not agree 1 bit with that article both teams will give everything to win on Sunday both teams have a big dislike for each other and mayo will not want to lose 3 in a row to Galway and neither team will be thinking about the next match ,it will be a tough physical battle ,I don't think it matters what county your from coz a game like this to Start the summer off properly will have the whole country glued to the screens ,I can't wait

Miracles will never cease, I actually agree with you on something.

Mayo in particular have had a long road through the qualifiers and replays the past two seasons, the squad (and fans!) could do with coming through the front door this season.

Galway will want to continue their fine run of form against us and get a second crack at the Rossies, following last year's Connacht final debacle.

It's a derby game anyway and we'd want to beat Galway if it was tiddlywinks.

It's a long way back to Croker for the losers of this tie.

There's a difference between suggesting that the teams won't be at their peak, and them not going 100% given fitness levels etc. They won't be holding back on Sunday... can't, it's not in the DNA, but I do believe that both of them will be hoping to hit their full stride later. In Mayo's case this is well trodden path by now, and it's a case of hoping that the players still have it in the tank. With Galway, this will probably be the first year that their plans won't be to just take each game as it comes. The last couple of years have been about building belief and setting attainable goals within the context of Connacht and a game or two in Croker. This year the ambition will be to push onto a higher plane, where they'll be recognised as contenders, and to underline this by getting to a semi-final. Teams who do well in the league don't always blow up come the summer, or else the Dubs wouldn't have the silverware they have, but for a provincial team to do this early enough in its development seems to be a bit more fraught. However I don't believe that any factor relating to the league will have an influence on Sunday... it's so early in the summer that it won't. Come a Connacht final and having to face a Rossie team (disrespecting Leitrim, I know) chomping to get another Connacht title and cracks might appear. That will be a danger for Mayo too (plus Rossie revenge!), should they prevail against Galway, and Roscommon are entitled to be ambitious given some of the talent they have. IMO the front door is there to be opened by any of the three (sorry, disrespecting Sligo this time!).

Galway starting 15 is bizarre, they have left out a number of key players. They better make a number of changes before throw in. Could very easily be mind games. I hope it's mind games!!!

How is it bizarre? You have no idea what happens in training or practise games.. Strong team and a strong bench..

Come on now; Behave! No Burke, No Daly, No Cooke, No Cummins, No Kelly. Those lads should be starting whether or not they are bench. Also, thank you for stating the obvious; saying I don't know what goes on in training and at practice matches. I suppose you know everything that goes on. Do you honestly think Flynn and should be starting?

Cooke & Kelly may start but Cummins & Daly are both coming back from very serious injuries and Burke hasn't played in the league at all this year. Its a 21 man game these days, the subs will be needed.

Dont take it personally. Belclare like this with everyone. Only way he will ever agree with anyone is if they list the Corofin 15 to start for Galway. He said that Molloy has to start this weekend for Galway although he hasnt played a senior inter county game in his life.
