What's happening to Derry? Down to div 4. 10 years ago they were in div 1 finals. I know they are rebuilding and didn't have Sneil men but surely you would think they had enough good players to stay in div 3.
They have had a few good minor teams so there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
Sad to see it.

It was 2014 that they last reached time league final!!
It's a crazy fall from grace. And it doesn't reflect well on the county setup considering the players at their disposal.

It was 10 years ago that they were winning division one. 4 years since they were in the final.

I just can't believe this, if memory serves me correct Derry were in the Division 1 league final in 2014. They have some really good players so it is hard to understand. They will have the Slaughneil lads back for the championship but eve still you just have to think that things are not right.

Bad day for the northwest all round so, jes I can't believe Derry will be in div 4, they always had some great players and a tough team to beat. Hope they get back were they belong soon.

It's has been an accumulation of failures to address key issues over the past 10 years. The result of those failures have resulted in Derry being relegated to the 4th tier.

It is a very sad day for a proud GAA county.

Damian McErlain is the 8th Derry manager since the year 2000. On average all the previous managers had a two year stint. How is changing your manager every two years going to bring stability? There has been in excess of over 300 players used in that period, that is a mamouth amount of players.

We've had continuous wrangling with clubs over players, clubs poisoning players minds about playing for the county etc etc. Yes we do have a competitive club championship but in reality Slaughtneil are streets ahead and the rest of the clubs are great pretenders.

I am not going to use Slaughtneil's success as an excuse because this provided opportunities for others to stake a claim in their absence. Personality clashes between players and coaches and playing it out on the back pages of the papers haven't helped.

Until we in Derry can find a solution to club v county we will continue to fail. There is no doubting we have the players but we are lacking leadership on and off the park.

There will be brighter days ahead hopefully but it's going to take a lot of hard work and a bit of give and take from both clubs and county.

They'll be back. Should stroll Div 4 next year anyway.

Hard to believe Derry are going to be in the depths of Division 4 in 2019.
They've plummeted like a stone.
It was only 2014 they were beating Kerry handy in Killarney this time of the year.
You'd hope this shock wedges a few firecrackers up the butts of those in charge up there.

I'm sure a certain Mr Brolly will have his say.
Maybe he could join the Derry set up in some capacity.....would be interesting

Agree with you here, I think the players would listen to him and may have a little bit more respect for him. If he somehow came in as an assistant manager or coach it would be fairly interesting to see how that would plan out.

I would guess the manager set a target of getting out of Div 3 for the League. Mission accomplished.

All this could be a blessing in disguise for Derry. Their manager has just joined of the back off an AI minor final. It's clear he has been brought in for a long term plan. Playing division four football next year is the perfect start for young players trying to establish themselves. Derry should have too much for the rest of the division and as long as the team are winning the momentum can build. I don't see Derry's situation as all doom and gloom by a long shot but they will need to have patience for once.

I think we should not gloat over any team that gets relegated. Of course the manager would set out to get promotion and, if he had the Slaughtneil boys for the campaign, they might have done it. It's demoralising to go from D1 to D4 and it will take a lot of work to get back up through the Divisions. Good luck in the final against Dublin

He already did! Now I know why he was giving out about the new Director General ofthe GAA. By some strange conspiracy the new man Tom Ryan being from Carlow has managed to somehow replace Derry in Div 3 with Carlow. Public inquiry required.

I don't know why they'd listen to him over anybody else. Where was he when you needed him most? Giving digs in the media and lambasting managers etc.
