Meant to ask you. There's a fella from North Belfast who loves to dish out a dose of the old begrudgery against his county on a weekly basis on Off The Fence. You know anything about That? ;-)

No but I am sure he makes some very valid points. Our county teams are mince and it's time the players manned up.

God, such an uneducated, untrue and depressing statement.

Aye, maybe they should man up, and ditch the boots for a keyboard, that's manly isn't it. Think it's about time you caught yourself on, Antrim may have a reasonable population but over half of it won't want to play the games, that allied with poor structures which allow civil wars to be prevalent then you're not off to a good start. If the supporters can't pull in the same direction how do you expect the teams to. duckula20 (Antrim) - Posts: 175 - 24/03/2018 12:57:50 2087402 Link 1 |
Antrim; Bottle Merchants Supreme.? supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 2904 - 25/03/2018 20:13:13 2087909 Link 1 |
Ah come on now UM. 'Bottled it' and 'swanning around with their egos' was mentioned which is what you've said on here as well. Hardly a coincidence. There's no debating it can get frustrating as an Antrim supporter. But let's not pretend we are on a pedestal above other lower level teams around the country. One Ulster final appearance in almost half a century tells will tell you where we're at! SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 25/03/2018 23:17:01 2088040 Link 0 |
Antrim needs to sort itself out as a county, i.e. stop the infighting, AND our players need to start toughening up mentally and physically for inter county competition; that's a fact. We've been in this hole of mediocrity for far too long. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9688 - 26/03/2018 15:12:27 2088324 Link 0 |
I don't know what Antrim needs so much more badly than other counties, Take Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon with a less of a playing population than antrim and crucially less employment within their own county. Yet they're getting on and doing well. majority of our lads are working in Dublin andthe same can be said for Ros and Monaghan. There's clearly issues within your county board that need addressing before throwing money at the problem. I really wish you the best of luck but Antrim need to stop the rot and somehow encourage children into GAA and get rid of the supreme attitude. theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 414 - 26/03/2018 15:31:20 2088335 Link 0 |
8 or 9 years ago i think we had the talent to give most teams at least a tough game on a good day. That was when StGalls had an AI club winning team and a few other note worthy talents from around the county. Going by under age failures and nothing of note at club level in the last 5 or 6 years it's clear we just don't have he quality amongst the ranks anymore. Who do you think should really be performing better than they are? and what other counties would be snatching your arm off for any of our players?

Cant blame the county board for everything. Attitude is our biggest problem, but there are many issues that would need to be addressed. Three obvious ones are: In Hurling 1. Coaching kids to catch the hurling ball, coaches allow the young players to take the ball down with the hurl, which is lazy hurling, look at the fielding from the Wexford team at the weekend (Antrim used to hold their own with the yellow bellys now it is 'day and night') 2. Lack of intensity in games, our lads don't fight for the ball, don't make runs, rarely first to the ball, totally unfit because they go to county training and are allowed to walk around the field, etc 3. No team play, if the lads win a ball they then go on a solo run, forwards don't know when the ball is going to be released therefore can't make runs to make space for themselves. It is so fustrating watching players with equal skill levels as those from the bigger counties but with little or no drive, direction, will, etc. Brian_Coyote (Antrim) - Posts: 346 - 26/03/2018 16:50:05 2088370 Link 0 |
