Refs often tell players to put in their gum shields and usually players just comply and get on with it, Refs also usually hold up the game until said gumshield is in much like holding up a kick out until someone ties a lace. No obligation on the ref to do so but it is the practice. Anyway time to learn and move on and have the runner with a few spares in his pocket

It would be better logic if it was applied across the board and not punish one player and forget about it again which is what is likely to happen.
