Galway Vs Monaghan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Something has to be done with this fake teams been released. Monaghan have made about 5 changes and 2 changes to the subs bench. Most countries do it however O'Rourke and Monaghan take it to the extreme.
Looking forward to a good game. Both teams fighting for a league final place so should be exciting.
Monaghan to nick it.

Very silly from Fintan Kelly I think it was. Red had no choice but to send him off. Monaghan has momentum there. I think Fintan was sent off against Tyrone last year for something silly as well.
Still going for a Monaghan victory.

Monaghan far superior in first half, they had all the possession, Galway have no interplay between forwards today, just individuals misfiring, Colm O Rourke will be delighted no doubt. Still, second half should be interesting.

such bad refeering. blatant fouls not called pther times he blows up for nothing. gives a free against a man for throwing the ball when it's obvious his arm is being held so he cant execute a handpass. Refs are destroying games.

Disappointing second half Galway took full advantage of extra man madness by fintan kelly again discipline letting us down.

Well done Galway. A shame we didn't get to see 15 against 15 in second half - would have given an assessment of where both teams are. Anyway Omagh in May is where the Farney focus is now.

We have only ourselves to blame for that loss. Galway far too good for us in the second half. Goes to show that we have to come up with a plan to stay focused when Mc Manus not playing. Both teams started with 15 and we have no one to blame but ourselves if we had to play one half with 14.

Galway can beat the mighty Dubs. Lets push the Dubs all the way next weekend.

Well done Galway. Today's result was never that important for us or indeed for Galway. Both managers got an opportunity to use their respective squads. K Hughes had his first start in this league & proved again what an exceptional player he is. Come championship time I look forward to a FF line of McCarthy, K Hughes & Conor. I thought ref missed an obvious penalty for us when McManus caught the ball cleanly in the square & Galway defender jumped into him with no attempt to play the ball. Anywhere else on the field & that's a free so ref bottled it.

Kieran H. showed his class today - really looking forward to seeing him at full tilt in the championship. Agree re penalty, but there you go - one for our Derry friend to reflect on!

Pity about the red card today. It was absolutely needless, and came at a time when we were getting stronger in the game. When Galway came out at the start of the second half and knocked over a string of points in a row, we didn't look like getting back into it.

Not sure how to feel about it, I wouldn't be too disappointed to be honest. Put it like this, I'd be alot more pissed off if we were still on 4 points. Barring a strange set of results in the remainder of the league, we're safe and can relax a bit in these last few games and experiment a bit. All this good league form won't matter a bit if we don't perform against Tyrone in May, that's the clear focus now.

Apart from a few late minutes against Tyrone, K Hughes played his first football of the year today and it wasn't a bad showing at all. He was our best player last summer at midfield, but with the emergence of Kearns that may allow him to go back into attack where he's been dangerous before. This league has been a successful one in terms of strengthening the squad.

We were poor today including the sending off. Instead of going 3 points up before half time we deservedly went a man down. Discipline still an issue. Referee was pernickity enough though and should have had L plates on him.

Galway are good and should give Dublin two good matches. There is a lot more to them than Cork or Derry. two teams that Dublin hammered in league finals and fell away after. Galway will be going nowhere regardless and good luck to them, they tick a lot of boxes

Agree with the "Fridge" regarding team announcements

For all his ability.. KH lets the game go past him at times, he was at the top of the Monaghan defenceive structure during the game and he let Galway players run past him very easily. He is very static and he steps away from their running angle instead of into their path and tackling them. Maybe he is looking for an intercept! He was a weak link when the Galway runners were coming at us down the centre.

First proper game back, lack of match fitness.

I wouldn't be rushing to criticize him, Kelly cost us that game with a moment of madness.
