Roscommon have a provincial trophy
Monaghan lost to longford in 2016 can't even remember who knocked ye out in 2017, was it Carlow?
What makes u think peaking to stay in division 1 and losing before quarters championship makes u better than galway and Ros

We will see how tough Galway are this weekend but I think we will see big Comer lying on his arse after being cleaned out of it by one of the Monaghan defenders.

Yes Longford knocked monaghan out in 2016. Dublin knocked Monaghan out in 2017.

I think the critism is a bit over the top, Roscommon beat Galway last year after beating the Leitrim in a semi final. Roscommon beat Leitrim and Galway to make the last 8.

Roscommon in their first year in Division1 went all out but wimped out of the championship there after.

I do rate galway and believe they could dominate Connacht football in the next few years.

If Monaghan start with the best defence they have galway have no chance and if our best forwards start which I don't think will happen we would show Galway where they are really at. I would say the are just a small bit better than Roscommon and when Dublin get a go at you're Tyrone style defence you will get a lesson.

To be honest Dunmore whatever Monaghan have or have not achieved historically should not inform what people think of their current squad. They have been very consistent to a point and obviously need to make the next step. I do feel we are on par with them although they are further along the road (if that is not a contradiction). They have some serious footballers no more than ourselves so will be interesting to see how we both do in championship. Bottom line is i like what Malachy O'Rourke is doing there and the fact he is not a bluffer makes it more impressive. On a side but related note their best defender currently Fintan Kelly has strong Tuam connections and with the legendary P.Joyce's Monaghan connections through marriage there will be mixed emotions for a few from both counties on Sunday.

A few posters getting carried away, Monaghan have done tremendous based on their very small population, its always going to be difficult for them to win an AI. Perhaps they have concentrated too much on the league in recent years but we don't know that for definite. In the last 5 years in the championship they've lost to the Dubs twice, Tyrone twice and Longford. I'm sure most Monaghan people will tell you that the loss to Tyrone in 2015 was the hardest to take, think the Longford game came only a week after losing to Donegal in a replay. I think realistically Monaghan will fancy their chances of making an All Ireland semi final, like Galway their record in Croker isn't great but by winning the 2 games out of Croker in the Super 8's might be enough to make the semi's. I don't think there's a lot to choose between Tyrone, Monaghan & Donegal at the moment, the games should be close.

As for Galway if we have a poor championship its not the end of the team, its a young side with plenty more additions to the panel over the next few years. Their might be a new manager in place this time next year and he'd inherit a good Galway panel with a years experience of Div 1 football.

Fintan Kelly also has connections with Newbridge in county Galway. His dad comes from there he is a very good footballer this lad.

Maybe it is Newbridge as opposed to Tuam. Great defender all the same.

Foxes Denn is really a Monaghan man who forgot to change accounts before posting (!) In any case, it is good to see Mattie McGleenan doing well after some knee-jerk reactions to McKenna cup defeats. A win against Down will more or less put Cavan back in Div1.

Comer will be a huge test for Conor Boyle, who has done well as Monaghan's no.3 this year. That has freed up Drew Wylie to move to 6 where he really looks to be enjoying himself. Whether that continues later in the year on drier pitches remains to be seen.

It will also be good to see a top-grade hurling match in the flesh next Sunday. The last time a lot of Monaghan football people had that privilege was 2007, when Limerick caught Waterford on the hop after that classic Monaghan-Kerry QF

Stupid comment. Drew Wylie will look after him and that would be a great duel.
