Similarities between Colm O'Rourke and David Clifford

(Oldest Posts First)

They say every footballer has a twin on the playing field, ie style, ability, body size etc. Looking at young David Clifford yesterday he appears rather remarkably like the 18 year old Colm O Rourke. Both tall, lean, the left foot. O Rourke made his debut for the Meath seniors in a NFL match versus Mayo in the autumn of 1975, he was also an outstanding minor that same year.

The only player I've seen live who has close to the natural elegance and potential of Clifford was Maurice Fitzgerald.

There have been many other great forwards of course, and there's no guarantee that young Clifford will have as good a career as Gooch, B Brogan, Canavan, etc. but at this stage in his playing career, in terms of overall ability, he is ahead of any who have gone before IMO.

Don't remember O'Rourke starting out, but if Clifford ends up as good as him at his peak, he won't have done too badly.

I remember orurke starting out, I hope Clifford doesn't suffer the injury Colm had, he is a excellent prospect, and no matter what county he is from it's fantastic for football that he remains, unfortunately Meath best prospect in many year is down plying his trade in Australia
