Gordon Kelly: Facing 3 Month Ban

(Oldest Posts First)

Just guessing.. but I don't think this will get the same national coverage and condemnation that D Connolly received.

The selective condemnation continues wha..

I'm presuming that Pat Spillane will be condemning this episode across all forms of national media?

Clare defender Gordon Kelly's league campaign could be over after being hit with a 12-week suspension.

The Miltown-Malbay clubman is understood to have been reported for an alleged altercation with an umpire during the Banner men's drawn Division 2 clash with Tipperary in Thurles last Sunday.

The heated affair at Semple Stadium also saw Clare boss Colm Collins handed a one-month suspension for alleged verbal abuse of an official following Jamie Malone's dismissal on a straight red card.

Malone's accidental collision with Shane Stapleton left the Tipp selector hospitalised on Saturday night.

The Clare Champion reports that both Kelly and Malone will contest their suspensions, while manager Collins confirmed to RTE Sport that he will also be appealing his ban.

Would you go as far as to say Gordon Kelly is not a "True Gael" Jimbo?

Incidentally, have you any links to video footage or anything like that of the alleged incident? Because that might actually be interesting.

I didn't say anyone was a "true Gael" note quotation marks. Merely that if it even existed I believe Gavin would hold the virtues of such.

You've simply misunderstood something

Not to worry.. it happens. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. That could well be the case. No harm.

You see that's the trouble. If it was Connolly Id be able to provide you with multiple clips in slow mo from various angles.. but this incident happened last weekend and it'll be the first time many people have even heard of it..

Selective condemnation and all that

the gaa have made a total balls of the fixtures list. and the disciplinary process.there was a case of legalised warfare between galway and mayo and not a word about it from on high.?

jamie malone who is without doubt one of the fairest and sporting players around accidently collides with a tipp official and hes wrongly sent off. and a team mate black cardes for asking why? the match then decended into a farce as the ref lost all control and culminated in him blowing the full time whistle seconds before clare were about to get into a huge match winning position in front of the goals.

anybody who attended the game on both sides agreed the ref want up to it in any shape or form.

now we hear gordon kelly is facing 3 months off for accidently spraying a waterbottle at an umpire?(video evidence available im told) .and colm collins voiced his displeasure and hes gettong banned as well?

so there you have it. punches thrown all over the place in galway v mayo..nothing about it.. clare get 3 men "done " and no punch thrown?

and this april "club only" rule?!!? i wont start on that .what beauty came up with that one?!!?

So you're saying you didn't call anyone a true Gael, and then in the next line you admit that you did call Jim Gavin a true Gael....

So there is no such thing as a true Gael, yet if there was, Jim Gavin would be one.

This is getting confusing Jimbo. Do you work in politics by any chance?

If Diarmuid Connolly scored a brilliant individual goal in a summer championship game it would also probably have far more replays and tv angles than a Clare footballer doing the same in a February league game. If anything this shows the disciplinary system may be working fairly across the board - 2 players not red carded but reported afterwards for minor interference with an official and banned for 12 weeks. You should enjoy your well earned success and not be looking for conspiracy theories around every corner.

I'll take your word on the incidents in the Clare-Tipp match, and hope all gets resolved as it should.
However, regarding Galway and Mayo you've thrown out some very misleading statements. Contrary to what you say, there wasn't a single punch thrown by anyone in the 'melee', just pushing and dragging. There's not much anyone on high can do under the current rules about a bit of jostling. It did get plenty coverage however and was rightly condemned.
There was a dirty elbow thrown in the course of the match, and Cillian was rightly red carded and will serve his suspension. I'm not sure what else you're expecting on top of this.

You have actually seen the Jamie Malone incident?....theres absolutely no accidental about it, Jamie ran to get the ball and pushed Shane Stapleton very deliberately. I don't think there was any malice ment, he was over enthusiastic about getting the ball back but that doesn't excuse it

Who was the referee?

That was no accident by Malone if the video is anything to go by. Of course he didn't intend on putting Stapleton in hospital. What was very disappointing in the aftermath of the game was the amount of moaning about the red card when Stapleton was in Hospital. Some things are more important and a bit of perspective wouldn't go astray.
