Moorefield V Corofin

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Very poor from Moorefield. A lot were touting Eanna O Connor to play for Kildare. Not a hope. Good free taker but didnt get many opportunities today. Only one that might be considered is James Murray. Deserved win for Corofin.

Moorefield more used to playing with 14 men rather than against 14!

I think the Corofin player Farragher deserves great credit accepting the ref's decision without throwing a tantrum like we normally see in such situations. It must have been difficult for him to control his emotions.

Christ the one sided indignation about player theatrics is nauseous. Both sides were at it. Corofin full back went down like he was shot in second half. Just because ref didn't buy it doesn't make the act any more palatable. Both teams had players trying to buy frees and get opposite number carded.
Best team won, great move for goal. Pity for Roli but Moorfields was shocking poor at times

Replying To Soma:  "A very disappointing game of football. The theatrics of the Moorefield player for the sending off were indeed shameful but considering the display of one of their teammates in Croke Park the last time they won an All-Ireland Corofin could have no complaints about that type of nonsense."
What a stupid comment. Of course Corofin can have complaints about the ridiculous decision today. As if something that happened 3 years ago automatically waives their right to ever have a grievance again.
Lundy was rightly condemned for holding his face against Slaughtneil. It was highly embarrassing and I hope he learned from it.
Today's incident was another example and one which could've changed the result of the game. There needs to be some type of sanction for this type of stuff, before it becomes too late.

Don't think so, Corofin played Vincents off the pitch three years ago hit the cross bar from a penalty from which Vincents got a breakaway goal and Corofin still won by five.

Replying To facethepuckout:  "Thankfully Corofin won that game, would have been a travesty with the red card and the fact that Corofin played whatever football was played in a very poor game.
That red card for Farragher must be rescinded and ref and Moorefield should apologise to him. Farragher has trained through the drudgery of winter , sacrificed his Christmas for this 60 minutes of football and to be denied his opportunity to play, bar one minute, because of this is shameful.
Well done Corofin, highlight of game was build up and execution of the goal."
Agree with everything you say BUT that's the result of a stupid system which carries the club championship through to March. It should all be done before Christmas. Would be easily achievable if there were no replays and all games decided on the day.

No doubt Corofin were the better side that day, just like both teams were poor today. I reckon Vincents are a better team than Moorefield though and would have fancied their chances in todays game.

I agree with what you say, the club championship probably should be concluded in the same calendar year. However, there is something special about the club finals in Croke Park on St Patrick's Day!!!!

Was Lundy condemned by his club? Or his teammates? I dont recall any announcement by the club at the time. The best sanction for this type of stuff is the scorn of teammates for disgracing the jersey, a 3 game ban missing local league games won't stop a player diving in an All-Ireland final sadly.

The sending off was a very poor decision and just hope it is rescinded. Matches of that importance should not be played on such a poor surface (great stand and very soft winter pitch).

I don't either. He certainly wasnt condemned publicly anyway. Whether they warned him privately or not, I haven't a clue. I'd hope they did. I don't think I've ever heard a club or county call out their own player over such an act. He got plenty stick from people in his county though.
I still don't understand how that means Corofin can't be aggrieved with a ridiculous incident today, as you stated. With that logic we might as well ignore every incident as almost every team has had a player act theatrically at some stage.
I agree that public shaming is the best way to prevent this. It's should be highlighted as the embarrassing act it is, and cowardly behaviour.

The playacting was as bad as the Tiernan McCann and Aidan OMahony incidents. Hard to have any sympathy for Moorefield after that. He should serve a 3 game ban for the first games of the Kildare SFC.

I woudn't mind but the Moorefield full-back actually made a fantastic catch. A great bit of skill. And then let himself down by doing a Rivaldo straight after to get his man sent off.

Moorefield full backs actions are not what we want to see in Gaelic games.

However, I agree with most posters that Corofin did their part to get numbers evened up.

A poor example of sport all round

Hopefully the player is available for the final

Red card was a shocking decision, this ref should be removed from the panel, if Corofin lost it would have been an injustice. Will he & the GAA have the gumption to correct this error & have the card rescinded ? A very poor game & the execution of skills was really poor. Moorefield we're very poor on the day & their decision making was not good, frees going backwards 20 metres, the poor use of the extra man, the shooting by No 15 O Connor, continuing the long ball to Sweeney when he was cleaned by Fitzgerald & the spectacle of Jack O Connor down on the line dictating matters to the m'ment, who was in charge ? Corofin we're deserving winners but the decision making of two of their county panellists at times could have cost them the game. One crucial moment was a lost opportunity to pop a point to go four up, ball turned over & Moorefield scored at the other end giving them the momentum to come back & level. Those errors made on Paddy's day won't beat Slaughtneil or Nemo. Fitzgerald, Silke, Steede & Dylan Wall stood out for Corofin.
