Limerick vs Laois

(Oldest Posts First)

Limerick are getting alot of Praise from Pundits saying that they are contenders for Liam and to win Munster.
I always liked Laois when they play hurling, as there style of play is usually nice to see.
Limerick do have a lot of talented youth coming up from Minor and under 21.
Going for a Limerick win here .
Limerick 4+

I have no idea what pundits are tipping us as contenders for Liam.!!
Decent run in the league and maybe take a scalp in the summer is as good as as I'd hope for.
Long way off the Limerick team that was in 2 AI semis a few years ago. That said the u21 win was welcome.

I'd be disappointed if we didnt get to either a Munster final or an All Ireland semi final this year - outside of Tipp Waterford and Galway I think we should be well able to mix it with the rest..

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see that happen too. Thing is we were fairly bad last year and realistically how much improvement would you expect in 2018?

The game we lost in Munster against a poor Clare side is up there with some of the worst I've seen from Limerick in a long time and we weren't much better against a Kilkenny side there for the taking.

I'm hoping for lots of things to happen but like I said in my original post my expectations are limited enough..
Be more than happy to be wrong and look forward to seeing how Limerick get on in the league.

Agree with this, we were extremely poor last year.

To go from 5th ranked in Munster to All Ireland contenders in a few months is not realistic. We've had very good U21 teams in the past as we all know and never did anything at Senior.

A modest improvement on last year is all we should be aiming for.

Why would you only aim for a modest improvement? Will management go in and tell them okay lads lest try to just improve a little bit..?

Clare were beaten by Cork in munster and Limerick in Quarters in 2012 and were AI champs in 13. I could write an endless list of dramatic improvements of (especially young teams with underage pedigree) teams across any sport from one year to the next.

Also, apart from Galway and Tipp, why should we not expect to be right there with any other teams? Who are you so terrified of that a semi final is the stuff of fantasy in your mind?

Totally agree with the above. Limerick are in development but if they find form I wouldn't be happy with making an All Ireland semi. I'd be very happy if they won the All Ireland. Kilkenny, Tipp and Cork supporters don't but into any of this "development year' malarky. If your good enough to pull on the jumper them your aim is silverware.

Limerick and Laois both have about the same chance of winning the All Ireland this year.
Limerick should go further in the competition than Laois but some posters expectations are unrealistic to put it politely.

How have Laois done in the preseason competitions

Obliterated by a very much so weakened KK team.

Laois are missing arguably their two best players in Roddy King and Picky Maher while Cahir Healy is not back in this year.

Which expectations? A munster final? AI semi final? If you think those are unrealistic then im glad your not part of management

No but the 1st league game has not been played yet and someone stated that a place in the AI semi would not be good enough.

Westfester is the only one making sense here.

As of now, in Munster we are well behind Tipp, Waterford & Cork, close enough but behind Clare.
For the rest, we are well behind Galway, and a bit behind Wexford & Kilkenny and around the same level as Dublin.

We can of course improve but to think we can overtake all those teams in a few months and win an All Ireland is for the birds. We are taking about a county that has won 1 All Ireland since 1940. There is too much unrealistic expectations.

Take Galway and Tipp out of it there's little between the rest. A bit of luck with injuries and any team could get a run with the new Championship structure.

Contesting Munster Finals or All-Ireland semi-finals is not out of Limericks reach this year - with a bit of luck
