Replying To achara:  "'Well if there are record attendances it is only because people are hungry to attend matches after the winter'
I'm confused is this the 1st year of this winter thing you speak of?"
No its the first year of a league that doesn't really matter

Expect some big attendances this weekend. Particularly in Omagh for Tyrone v Dublin, Castlebar for Mayo v Kerry and Wexford park for Wexford v Cork. It will also be interesting to see if Offaly gets a big crowd after their performance against Dublin last week.
Can't understand why the Tipp footballers wouldn't be put with the Tipp hurlers as a Doubleheader tomorrow night rather than play on two separate days. Nobody will be in Semple Stadium on the Sunday.

Big crowds to be fair on Saturday night especially for football matchs when you consider Rugby on TV as well.

The stand in MacHale Park holds 10,000 and was full. There was a if crowd the far side and behind the bacon factory end. Looked more like 15,000 rather than the just under 12,000 as officially reported.

SlipperyDodger, you were right about Semple anyway. 2,344 was the attendance yesterday, and I'd say about 2/3rds of the crowd were Rossies. I'd have preferred a double header on the Saturday evening myself.

Don't they only count those who pay through the gate. All kids under 16 would be free so your 15k figure is probably accurate.

You may be right there. I was under th impression they "clicked" through everybody. 2 friends of mine got in free as they knew the man at the gate..a lot of that still goes on around the country

Cant be far off 100,000 attended Hurling or Football league games the weekend past. 30,000 at those 5 hurling league games mentioned above and juveniles are minimum 20% more. Some very big crowds at football too circa 15K Castlebar, 10K in Omagh etc.

Need to show paying public some respect.
It was only announced at 5.30 that Breffni Park was unplayable .Spectators were already on route and The Meath team was there.
Cavan Team nowhere to be seen because they knew early in the Day that the match would not be going ahead.

Cavan Co Board behaving badly knowing they would get away with it and having a laugh at their neighbours.

There should be a severe fine and loss of home advantage for this carry on

If that's the case, I hope Meath hockey them tomorrow and I would rarely support Meath.

I thought crokepark needed to get 35,000 supporters in to even break even? That's a poor support all the same.

Think the figure is nearer 25,000 but it's not a concern for Croke park when the Dublin Co board are renting it out. I presume the fee is the same no matter what the attendance. As for last night, the crowd was poor enough alright, but it was a miserable evening in Dublin so i'd imagine a lot of the more casual support opted for an evening by the fire, given that both games were on tv and the rugby was on prior to that.

Myth.

According to people it's either 20k, 25k, 30k, 35k, 40k, 45k.......

There's no set number. Costs go up and down depending on the number and they plan accordingly.

I didn't know that but that's fair enough, and all joking aside it would be easier stay at home in this weather and watch it on the telly, although as they say you can't beat being there.
