Dub Hurlers Under Gilroy

Calling back Keaney and a few others who are possibly in the twilight of their careers sent out the wrong message to some young lads on the panel.
If it was Gilroys attempt to galvinise the team before development then it hasn't worked. He'd have been as well taking that trimming off Limerick with the young fella's on the team.

Still think the Dubs will stay in Div1B as its looking like a relegation playoff with either Laois or Antrim, more than likely Antrim as I think Laois will beat the Dubs, but the Dubs will have enough to see off Antrim in the relegation playoff."
I'm not so sure. I think a fair number of hurlers had been discarded by Cunningham or had left of their own accord and Gilroy was just opening up the gates again by saying anyone who wants to play for Dublin (and is capable of making an impact) is welcome back. Keaney is not a long term option last but the likes of Nolan still have plenty to offer. I doubt Gilroy was trying to galvanise the team with these players but just give himself the biggest pick possible and he can sort out his final squad later. I would be reluctant to say it hasn't worked after three league games either as promotion from 1b clearly hasn't been prioritised. Gilroy's credit is still very good with the Dublin support. I think he deserves our patience and I'm pretty sure he'll get it.

There are some very successful underage teams coming through mate, some not quite just there yet, year 2 and 3 will be telling. The older players, returning players will help us thread water and provide a foundation, year 1 will be positive despite all the doom mongers, Cuala lads coming back into the panel will make a big difference.

The whole thing is transititional at the moment, one thing I'm certain of is Gilroy will be successful.

Yeah I fully agree with you username on that one. He deserves his time and judging him after three league games is the bit daft in my opinion. We have every chance of staying in The division while also getting fitter and stronger all the time. It's going to be a difficult year but it will be a start and I've a good feeling that better days are ahead.

We were judged previously based on talent at our disposal and that should still be the criteria, that said performances have been poor and I am satisfied that Gilroy has openly said that , so no one is hiding we are all well aware of the challenge in front of us , big shout out to Dublin North Colleges tomorrow in a Leinster final v st Keirans of Kilkenny in DR Cullen Park , some of those lads will play senior some day

Dublin should beat under strength Galway this weekend as they need it more and Galway are through to the quarter-finals, no incentive for Galway to seek promotion this year. Dublin need to be patient, use 1b to rebuild.

Probably one of the principal consequences of playling the league of by March 24th, is that if a club gets to the AI club final, those player now miss the entire league, realistically. I don't think that was really called out at the time.

Realistically, which players from Cuala are actually likely to join the inter-county setup post March?

Interesting question? There's at least five lads that could come in, certain individuals would not play under Cunningham , honestly don't know if all squad bar Con are likely to make themselves available, will have to wait and see

After the Limerick game it must be very disheartening for the players, they looked like a team over trained, lead in their legs and second to everything. Maybe when the Cuala/college players return, but they play they way they look.

Management say the poor performances are not due to heavy training, in a way I hope it is due to the training. The collapses in the 2nd halves has been pretty alarming and I'm concerned what effect it is having in the younger players. A lot of posters are saying give Gilroy time which is fair enough but I've seen nothing so far to give encouragement.

14 schools represented from Northside of the river , first time ever to reach the final , end of the road as a representative team they can't go into all Ireland, still Leinster champions

That's a good idea, we do something similar with our district teams in our county championship, I take it st Kieran's will go on to represent Leinster now?

Sorry to hear that Damo, it's tough on the young man but youth is on his side so he'll get plenty of opportunities .

Congrats Damo, whether he played or not, I'm sure you're very proud of the young lad.

Dublin did well today, that was some come back in the second half when he looked dead and buried.

And for what it's worth, I really like Galway's away kit this year.
