Some things should be beyond £s signs and if this happens I think it wont be long till we are seeing semi pro players similar to rugby where they are contracted to a county/province and return to club games either to recuperate after injury or whenever the county team exit the AI series regardless of the talk from the gpa/CP money is going to be the killing of the amateur game within the next decade"
You're probably right. The rift between club and county is probably already unbreachable and the new championship structure -- which is supposedly designed to keep them working together -- seems almost certain to widen the gap.

Plenty could filter down to club level and it would be very different to rugby where there is basically 3/4 tiers. Is that the way in Hurling/Gaelic where there are clubs and counties. Rugby has clubs/provinces and national side

there's been plenty of big money deals done the last one selling out to the sky corp and to hell with those who cant afford to run to games and cant afford sky subs, yet clubs are struggling up and down the country just to afford the insurance, rates, player injury cover, county board fees etc and any development work or capital spend is all paid for by volunteers running the roads begging selling tickets or trying to come up with new ideas to raise capital. yes they may get grants from gov in the north but that has to be matched by the club and vat added on top of that, yet no money is contributed from CP or Provincial councils. Yes some clubs have over stretched and a lot have some bloody excellent facilities which are the envy of other sporting organisations but they still need paid for and maintained, but does any of these big sponsors care or even croke park, yes some of the money filters down to county level coaches but does that help all those ulster council coaches on protected notice? haven't heard any body from CP saying sure we've plenty of money we'll keep your jobs safe till such times as the clowns decide to go back to work and sort budgets etc, yet the shameful state of casement and the bollox that's been made of it, trying to ride roughshod over the locals. my point on pay for play is with all this money supposedly available its the inevitable consequence that players will want a slice and the player association will also want a bigger cut { and fair play to them after all it is them that provide the product to sell } and only a matter of time so I don't understand the reluctance of people to acknowledge that, still I believe that somethings should be of limits and not just sold off for quick gain to some big tax avoiding corporation whose only aim is self promotion. happy new year to all

Sums up my view on this perfectly = probably sums up most people in GAA, which is why you have few responses.

Good god that is some paranoid bullshit. Sky deal wasnt selling out. It was basic business. Would you have rathered significantly less money for games then? Are clubs struggling with all these issues and even if there was no sky deal they still would be struggling so the sky deal is irrelevant. Yes all these things like rates, injury cover are paid for by the club members(Volunteers) but who else do you expect to pay for them then if not the club members(volunteers)?

Breffni isn't named after a person which is why Kingspan were able to name it. Same for Innovate Wexford park.
Few other counties have the option e.g. Meath, Louth and Armagh."
Glennon bros pearse park in Longford?

Can't change Croke Park name, I mean where will it stop, when a player scores will the announcer say who the scorer was and his boots are sponsored by whoever, socks by another crowd, gloves etc, make a laughing stock of us all

Just a point of note. .

Kingspan Breffni Park was renamed last year. Now it's just Kingspan Breffni.

Not sure why, I'm guessing Kingspan requested it as they would prefer to have half of the name rather than one third.

I and anyone I ever talk to just refers to it as Breffni.

While Breffni is still in the name I can't see anyone referring to it as anything else. So I suppose once Croke Park remains in the name, I'd see no real issue with a sponsor's name being added to it.

the other thing about Cavan is that Kingspan sponsored Cavan for up on 25 years before asking to rename the grounds. it was probably a good deal on our part and there was probably a slight obligation on Cavans part to accommodate them after their service. Croke Park is slightly different in that the stadium doesn't belong to a county. it also has a much higher profile than the average GAA stadium. Although it probably wouldn't be any harm you would have to question the benefit to the GAA community overall seeing that it is a amateur sport at the end of the day.
