Given how quiet it is this time of year, its a good chance to see how each team rates across the different grade. Senior is berween Dunboyne, Tones and Ratoath. All 3 have a lot of quality under 21's and Minors coming through Nobber for Intermediate as they too have 4 quality young lads who will add a lot to what was not that far away this year. Interesting!- if folk keep posting Rathoath and Dunboyne on a continuous basis then one day they will be correct. Underage success does not make senior success a certainty although it is does help. Some players develop into much better players at older age. Ratoath have been successful for the last 10 years at underage with good teams all along, but only got into the senior championship last year (the club were the obvious club of the year followed by the Tones this year). It could be argued that Dun/Ash had one of the best minor teams having won the Leinster minor, they have had some great underage teams over the last 12 plus years and have still not got to the summit- (I suppose one could say that they were a bit unlucky). I predicted last year that the winners would be a team that won it in the last six years (two of those teams competed in the final). Simonstown would have to be favourites having won it this year, but there are no certainties. There are a couple of things I would say on this! * Those who have said good underage teams doesn't mean good adult teams are absolutely right. I was talking to a couple of lads from Don/Ash and Ratoath in Dunganny last weekend and they said that less than 50% of their minor teams transfer through to adult football. * Was talking to a chap from Cilles - and he said that a lot of their Minor winning team of 2016 are now in College and or working and they just cannot comit to the training schedule expected of Senior players * If you were looking at league results you wouldn't be giving teh likes of Ratoath much hope - but they have 9 firts team players tied up with the County Footballers and Hurlers. I know other teams are impacted but I don't think to that extent! * In fact, I think it is fair to say that all the County players are lost to the clubs for the league. I am laughing at your '3 meath super clubs' remark. I presume you mean Dunboyne, Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Ratoath. What is funny about it is that neither Ashbourne or Ratoath have ever won the Keegan Cup! In fact I think Ratoath are only oin their second year as a Senior Club - hardly grounds to be a super club!! When they became Donaghmore Ashbourne it was simply a case of adding Ashbourne to the name. They didn't amalgamate or form a new club. With the county game called off Ratoath were able to field with McGill, Power, Wallace and McMahon - mind you Simonstown fielded with Conlon and McKeever although according to the match report Conlon only lasted about 15 minutes.
